What wheels did you get? I would like to get wheels and tires together, so much cheaper w included balance and mount. Be sure and let us know how you like the Michelin at your current power level.
I almost wonder if I'm the only vett driver here that loves to goose it up to interstate speeds as often as I can. If I leave TC off there is wild tire spin, I know I need different tires, really good tires made for TRACTION, regular street tires won't do it, I have street tires now. I am looking still for some good reviews with those who have solved this problem.
Your current tires were rated the worst in the budget ultra high summer performance category in terms of dry traction. Age doesn't help as tires get harder and lose grip as they get older. Name brand tires in the max summer performance category will hold the LS1's stock power, and will generally hold up to LS3 power or slightly more. Tires in this category include Michelin Pilot Super Sport, Michelin Pilot Sport 4S, and Continental ExtremeContact Sport, all of which are also considered street tires. Like I have said, the only way I can spin my tires in dry weather is with a 4000 RPM clutch dump, and the tires I mentioned above have more dry grip than mine.
I ran r888's when my car was n/a and they weren't noisy, not enough to bother me anyway... they did however still spin more than I liked and I knew a blower was in the future so I sold them while they were still in good shape, the 305/30/19 are pretty expensive... they did handle really well though which is what they were really designed for and they are popular for 1/2 and mile events because of this and their stiff sidewall
It's interesting the differences from one person to another on the same tires. They're noisy, no way around it...but they don't bother me either.
They have excellent traction. I've been using them for 1/2 mile events for years now, and at 640rwhp they have tremendous grip. Tons of people in this forum use them as well, and we all have videos of our passes. If I launch well enough and feed the the throttle in right give the suspension a chance to load up the rear tires, I still get 100% grip in 1st gear without even doing a burnout.

I bought Forgestar CF5 wheels, 18x9.5 and 19x12. 275/35/18 and 345/30/19 Pilot SS.

I slapped a set of Hankook Ventus on it and it was night and day difference. Even with a Magnuson supercharger it hooks up really well now in warm temps. I have to be careful when it gets below 50 degrees though.
Ironically, I have a Mags TVS2300 waiting to go on. How do you like yours and what power did you see?
And after calling again, my wheels and tires are not shipping today after all. It sounded like I may have them by march 15th, but that didn't happen. Been told they're at powder coaters for weeks now.

Are the 345's under stock fenders? I just checked the date code on my tires, they were made in 2015, so not that old but must be pretty hard tires made for long wear. Thanks to everyone for the replys.
I mini tubbed my Z a while back. Been trying to get wheels for almost a year. First place I ordered wheels through made them wrong. Second place is who I'm dealing with now. Every time they say they should have them they don't come and subsequently don't ship.

I love the Maggie. I haven't dynoed it yet as it was installed by previous owner but it has gobs of power. On my next round of mods, I will get that done. I have driven a C4 ZR-1 and this completely smokes it. I went 19's all the way around also and widened out to 305 30R19's on the back and 275 30R19's on the front. It hooks up really well now, at least for how I drive it, which is just spirited driving.
Michelin Pilot Super Sports would be right up your alley.
After going through 3 sets or cheaper tires broke down and got a set of 315X30s Michelin Pilot SS on the back of my 500+ HP 04 ,love them solved some of my traction problems way better that another tire I tried .. Starting to look like a tire store in my garage .. Sticking with these ,you get what you pay for sometimes ..

Is the "mini tub" just replacing the inner fender well in the rear or something more? I am leaning toward the Nitto NT05 right now, just not sure which wheels. I can't afford most aftermarket wheels, just can't see spending several thousand on wheels alone. Am thinking about OE wheel, I know they are C made which I hate but they have pretty good reviews.

I'm glad to hear such a positive review at your power level. Maybe I'll like them more than I thought I would.

There are a lot of guys running home made mini tub kits. I sourced an NOS Lingenfelter kit and am glad I did. The kit replaces the inner wheelhouse with a wider panel. It also comes with new fender liners to replace the stock ones. They are wider and MUCH thicker than the stock units.
I put a poll on a fb group about tires and the Nittos were almost unanimously hated. Complaints about lack of grip and about them running narrower than other tires of the same size. I was ready to buy them until that poll. Talked me out of it. As for wheels, Forgestar and TRW both sell some very affordable wheels. Not a ton of options at that price range. I can't see spending $8K on a set of HREs either, so I see understand where you're coming from. Love to have them, hate to pay for them!
was that the NT05 or just Nitto's in general? I have 315 555's on the back of my C4 w TF heads and mild comp cam and they don't grip very well, hard tires and spin in first like crazy even w/o dumping the clutch which I never do.

That's a good question. In my poll I listed the Nitto Invo and was specifically asking about it. It's hard to say though if peoples responses were based on that tire only, or on other Nitto tires they had experience with. Sorry I don't have a better answer here.

invos are good tires but not the best for trying to put power to the ground in my opinion... I ran them on the front of my car for a few years and I liked them but when they wore out I switched only because I wanted a Y speed rated tire
