Lol, better get used to it. I have all kinds of random cars pull up wanting to race. Depending on the car and situation (freeway not busy) sometimes I take the bait.
diesel trucks & pos hondas seem to challenge me the most. I did learn to stay in the left lane when I see a diesel truck closing in on me as I approach a red light. Those bastards love to blow black smoke at Vettes.

Good tip.
. I can't really answer that question but the thing for me is the noise and the feeling raw power gives you. I don't need to go out and prove my car is faster, or slower, than [insert car here] on a daily basis. I just don't care enough.
I have more fun ‘feeling’ the car and competing against an imaginary competitor. Someone else mentioned HPDE and AutoX, I strongly endorse those activities. They’ve certainly given me the chance to push the car to my max without looking over my shoulder, giving me invaluable experience approaching reasonable limits.
I agree that the diesel trucks seem to be the worst.
As as far as street racers in general, I just ignore them. I'm always afraid that a cop will see it at the wrong time and still pull us over if he sees the one car take off. Sometimes I take a different route if possible if they become really persistent. I've had racers trail me side by side for 10mi constantly hammering the throttle and then slowing down to do it again.
You guys with your cute little red corvettes, haha. People don't even pull up next to me, they stay like 10 feet away. Must be the black on black rims and tints that scares them away. Fine with me! Haha
They don't bother you because they can't see you...
I occasionally race them , especially Friday nites on sunrise hwy going to or coming from bellemore. And Sunday mornings going to or coming from CapTree or of obi
I ignore them. If they get annoying they get the finger. One group tried to surround me on 355 because I wouldn't race. Break checked and he almost hit his buddy. I laughed and got off at the next exit.
One time I got one dork at a stop light revving at me. The idiot didn't see the unmarked cop in the other lane. I raised my hands for the cop to see i'm not racing. Idiot took off burning rubber and the cop lit the lights up. I wanted to stop and laugh at the idiot where he got pulled over at.
I go pretty much unnoticed in my navy metallic blue Corvette. I occasionally get stares at night, which I think has to do with my fender vents being lit (white LED strip), but other than that, haven't really had any want to race experiences. San Francisco Bay Area.
I live in Las Vegas and people here are angry and arrogant. One morning on my way to work, i was sitting at the left turn lane when the light turned green when the car to the right of me cut me off to get into the turn lane. I guess he was laughing and looking in his rear view mirror because he failed to see the car in front of him stop because the light turned yellow. BANG, he hit the car with such force that it buckled his hood. Sometimes life give you a gift and that was the best gift of all.
Bright yellow and never, not once. Only got a month of ownership, but as someone said out here in the sticks I have more trouble making sure the giant trucks SEE me.
I did have someone try to push me in the 308 once, which I thought was ridiculous. He had a C7 and my Italian supercar had all of 250hp and didn't even wake up until 4k. Yeah no thanks.

i dont race them i just mind my own business.....after 3 corvettes you get use to it.....now when the white worker man vans are right on my *** on the clover leafs i just accelerate away and smile when they try and keep up with me. they never see it coming and just keep bearing down on me as i accelerate until they get all swervy and have to back off.
I've had my car for two years now and have never had anyone challenge me. I put 15K on it with several long trips, but most of us time I am on less trave!ed roads.
Hello, I’m putting this out there to see if anyone else has experienced this phenomenon. This my first corvette (03 red coupe) so maybe this is normal behavior. I drive approximately 30 miles each way
back and forth to work daily, 80% is interstate highway with HEAVY congestion. This drive is all within in the greater Kansas City area. I’ve noticed since buying this car that almost every Chrysler with a ”Hemi” in it including pickup’s, most newer Mustangs, plus the usual mix of Beamers, Jags, and any old import with s megaphone muffler feels a need to race my 15 yr old car. I’m sure my old vette has at most 300 HP based on my mileage yet these new cars with 500+ HP will pull alongside in traffic and bounce up and down, while revving their motors. Thay encompass all types from teenagers to middle aged business men, construction workers to housewife’s in minivans. I feel like I’m waving a red flag to a herd of bulls. Is it because it’s a vette or is it just a “Red Corvette” thing?
If I pass them in heavy traffic I’ve seen them speed down the shoulder and cut off cars just to get in front of me. Mind you traffic is only moving at 20 to 30 miles per hour but these idiots will floor it if they see any chance to get ahead of me. Then stick there fist out the window in some sort of victory display. I’m a 65 yr old man and have no desire to risk my car or life racing every other car in traffic. I never dreamed this car would provoke such behavior in people, but it seems endless. Thoughts anyone, is this something you deal with also, do you bite on every challenge thrown out to you? I’m done rambling on.
Thanks , Bob
I think the simple answer is because the car line is iconic and a lot of people want a piece - either owning one or seeing what it's got.

one thing I have found out after owning my c5z for the past 7-8 years is that you will have a big target on your back from random people for whatever silly reason... I have even met people that I would normally get along with and when they find out what kind of car I have they suddenly develop a pretty nasty attitude

There's 2 black C5Z next to me and I def notice them, but maybe that's cause I'm biased, haha. A black and also blacked out Corvette Z06 IMO looks and sounds more sinister then other colors. NOT better, just more evil looking, that's prob why they don't pull up to my window. People with black Corvette's and tints will tell you the same thing, it's called caution. Maybe it scares them and that's prob why they don't race me, much...perhaps they also think it's more modded than other colors. But, if it's more stealthy like you say, then all the better. I simply want to enjoy this awesome machine and don't really care what others think. And neither should anyone driving these great sports cars. I'm sure I've missed a few opportunities, but that's simply because I was too busy having fun in this Vette.
Honestly almost no one tries me......maybe it is the color of your car? Are you sure the minivans are trying to race? Maybe you just drive too slow
anyhow it always a good advice to not get sucked into a street race but...
I have been known to get up to speed pretty quick, with a supercharger it doesn't take long, most are done after that. But again, this everybody wants to race thing almost never happens to me? Maybe it's the cam? You can't really hear the supercharger......
What I gather from the locations of commenters and attitudes of fellow drivers on the road is that it sure seems to be a locational thing.. seems like most of us southerners don’t deal with it as much.. within the almost 12 years I’ve owned mine, I can count on 1 hand how many times I’ve been “challenged”, and it’s a black-on-chrome loud *** car.. more than anything, to this day, I get random compliments at gas stations and younger high school aged kids stare in fixation as I drive by.. but 99.9% of the time when folks act all crazy and try to race, I just laugh and ignore it lol
I don't mess around anymore (71) but I do drive what I call spirited. It's when nobody's around and I love to go through the gears up to speed. If someone does see me and fly's up to me I slow down and drive like a grandpa then they move on. I've had to many speeding tickets over the years and am kinda paranoid that there's a police car around the next corner. Lol

I enjoy driving in the late evenings, when the traffic is sparce. There are times that I love the attention these cars garner, but rush hour traffic is not one of those times. There's always someone with everything to prove, no matter how little room they have.
