Back in 1983 I owned a 1978 Firebird. Only had it a few years until I decided to buy a truck. Never forgot the car, but I did forget about all the times everyone would challenge me to a race back then......Well that was until I bought lil red. Now I am constantly reminded on a daily basis of what it was like back then owning a sports car. Now I cant go but a couple of miles only to have the local kids rev motors or just flat out try to chase me down to race. Just recently I had to go talk to a kids father that I went to school with about his son nearly causing a bad accident trying to get through traffic to challenge me. I love the head turns, compliments at the gas pumps and stores, but I can do without the racing invites. She's a cruiser, not a racer!!
Had a guy in an 05-09 Mustang try to get me to race him a few nights ago on the highway. Had Roush decals and the 2013 taillight conversion. I ignored him because it was raining, I had maybe 750 lbs of drinks in the back, and didn't have anything to prove.

Always good advice not to street race. I will say it again (just like in the thread we just had) because its a discussion......I almost never get challenged to race???? If it bothers you I'm not sure what to say because it doesn’t happen to me. People just drive crazy nowadays.
or get a supercharger... takes just a few seconds to get up to speed and your problem is solved, they are so far back they give up quickly.
I always just wave and then ignore them. I don't have anything to prove. I know what the car can do and don't have to prove it to anybody. Not taking the risk of a ticket or worse.

My hot-rod days are decades behind me. Prefer to cruise as well. Saw too many wrecks caused by foolishness which proved nothing.
Too bad wisdom comes with age. Our grandkids are now learning to drive but not with my C5! Yikes.

No need for any more big HP gain through Super Chargers or anything else to boost power for me...I'm just about handling and looks and cruising...
when I had my 427 Cobra, I'd have people chase me down to race nearly every time I was out in it. Ironically enough, it was frequently someone in a C5 Z06. I never took the bait... nor would I now in my C5Z. I just don't need that kind of validation.
LOL! I hear ya, my 16 year old daughter begs me daily to take mine to her prom
LOL when my daughter was 16 I taught her to drive a stick in an M3. Then I took her to autocross school and she learned and got better. She spun my ZR-1 before I did, right in front of me while I was working the course. Didn't stall it, spun it back around and finished the course in style. Her big Christmas present a couple years ago was a matte black helmet. She's 21 now, works for Subaru and is asking me when the next autocross is. Yes she will be driving the Vette!
Good move just ignoring the other drivers that want to sucker you into a street race. Way too much risk involved.
Indeed, Unfortunately in my profession I have seen the aftermath when things go wrong. Not easy pulling up to a scene and have to locate body parts, and im not talking about car parts
I had people rollin' up to race me allllll the time when I was closer to stock. I think mine looks so radical now, that it scares away all but the bravest of 4 bangers

I see it every Spring - testosterone explosion on the highways - and you have to watch out for the bikers too! I had a group of 4 come by me on the NJ turnpike easily doing a buck-twenty - gotta leave the idiots space to make their mistakes...
