I own a 2000 Corvette
i think with an aluminum block!!!
i hear that there is a starter problem coming loose a breaking the flange of the block!!
does anyone know of this problem!!!
It's hard to read through the old threads with references to blocked pictures. From what I gather the newer style starters that replace the short bolt with a built in bracket and long bolt prevents the block from cracking.

All 1997 and newer Corvettes have aluminum blocks.
I bought a new starter off Amazon for around $90 shipped.
Bosch BSH SR8581N part number for the unit I bought. It comes with the long bolt.
I replaced mine yesterday but didn't research it first. Just figured it was a starter that needed replacing and wouldn't have any drama around it, I forgot it's a C5 I'm dealing with. Lol

I also recommend the bosch starter... I wrapped the body, solenoid, and wiring with heat barrier to hopefully help with longevity... if you have headers and/or race the car it gets very hot down in the starter area
I used the Bosch starter when I replaced mine last fall.. Mine was fine, but
I was doing headers.. So I did it as a maintenance procedure. It made me feel better
that would NOT have this issue.. I also did new rocker arms and springs so that would
never be an issue
The needle bearings can "fall out".. They are just pressed in with a retainer like thing..
You can upgrade by rebuilding your original with new shafts that have "captured" ends
that retain the bearings mechanically or opt for aftermarket rockers.
Usually just a problem on higher mileage, raced cars, or anytime cam has been upgraded.
The spring issue is mostly with the 02-04 Z06's ..
Do any kind of search on the rockers and you'll see exactly what i'm referring to
