I'll answer the next car for Tim, it's a CLK 55 AMG package. He is having the supercharger installed this week. Not to worry, he will have another vette.

Hmmm, there was a porsche club event today along with the CARTEK Corvette Challenge and there were two new Turbo's there that were dialed in at 12.20 and 12.30 E/T's on street tires. I dont think any of the stock Z06's were getting those times with street tires. Today was my first time on the strip and I dialed in at 12.20 after running 12.30@120 with crappy 60ft time of 2.4. Only thing is, I have 453.5 rwhp from a H/C package. For what it's worth......BTW, both 911's had tiptronic auto's.

Hey Evan, it was good to meet you today, that gray Porsche was pretty sweet. 119 mph trap speed @ 12.23, not too shabby.

I agree, the Black & Grey TT AWD Porsche cars were awesome. They were not even launching hard and they were still ripping off 12.2s @ 120 MPH. Their runs looked extremely smooth and I did not see any stock Z06 cars run those numbers.

That performance does come with an outrageous price tag. One owner told me that his car cost him about $170k.

I ran a 98 owned by an exotic car dealer. I had my wife in the car. I ran him from a dead stop. He didn't do a 6000 rpm launch. He just rolled out, and decked it. I gave him the jump and came around him like he was driving an Accord. A 2002 Z06 is more than a match for a TT. Now, one of the very new (i.e. 2002 / 2003) GT2s which are making about 405HP also might be a bit more of a challenge. But for 120K it better be. Plus it isn't AWD... But I think it will come down to the driver.

My average around town is 13mpg... But I only keep 2 gallons in my car to keep the weight down for racing.

The new 911 Turbo cars we saw are stock at 420 HP.
http://www3.us.porsche.com/english/u...bo/default.htm

Both cars had the optional Tiptronic transmission. They were not even launching hard (2.1 & worse 60' times) and they were easily beating the stock Z06 times and killing the Z06 MPH. I personally think that the new 911 TT will take a Z06 and driving the car is as easy as an auto.

hey guys, i posted what happend on the Z06 forums, here is what happend:

You guys wont believe what happend.
did i loose? nope!
did i won? nope!
Did he back out? YUP!
LOL...ok, i am sure he didnt back out because he was scared, but here is the story.

So i am on my way to his house across the street, and he comes out and says "whats up man, listen, i dont think i am gonna run. My g/f is telling me that it is a bad idea because it isnt my car, and that if something happens that i am in trouble"

So, here i am thinking to myself..why did he even ask to run in the first place if he knew that it isnt his car?

Anyways..so i say "that it totally understandable, i wouldnt want to ruin a friends car that is worth 150k either, so how about i take you for a ride in my Z, have you ever been in one"? and he says "No, i never have" so i say "well, can i take you out for a ride" and he says.."sure, a little american muscle wont hurt once in a while." LOL, i didnt say anything after that excpet "ok, lets go"

So, i take him in and we are on our way out of the subdivision, the first thing he says "wow, your seats are comfortable, i like how you sink in them, very cumfy" and i said "thank you, but ur not gonna care too much about the seats when i ram the gas pedal in 2nd gear at 3500 RPM" and he says "haha, lets see what this thing can do"
AND I AM OFF....rammed it in 2nd, shifted at about 6200, and rammed third. Then i quit because i didnt want to go too much faster, since it is dark out and any animal can jump out at me on the rd. So, i shut down and i look at him and he says.."Oh my god" hahaha, that was all he said. Then on the way back, he said."you know, i never knew what a Z06 was capable off, but i m glad you took me out for a ride because i sure will never be so confident again in questioning to race a Z06" or something like that. i dont rememmber exactly. so i asked him how it compared to his friends 911, and he said.." from what i just saw, the Z might pull ahead, but i will more then likely get you from a deadstop and top end, being that the car is AWD and i top out at 190" i said "ya, probably"
so, i dropped him off, and i said "alright man, thanx for coming out, watch out for them Z06's out there, they will put a hurtin on ya" lol, i was just messing with him and he says.."i am afraid that IT might be close, too close, we will see one day, later man"

And you only showed him one third of the Z06's talents: imagine what he would have said if you showed him a full 1.0 G on a turn, and a full force brake maneuver from 60MPH in 105ft. which would just about suck his eyeballs out of their sockets and give him a seat belt rash.  :D

Not that the 911 Turbo couldn't do that too, but I've rarely seen 911 drivers actually drive the car anywhere near its limits.

I've always had a soft spot for the Porsche TT...My preference is for the later model 911 96-97 with the huge tail.

The car just looks strong and beefy , but after running one a couple weeks ago i'm going to stay with american muscle. The porsche looks great parked in the driveway but was a real disapointment when i saw it in action.

I had him by more than a dozen car lengths .

I had a 2001 911 TT and it was a stellar car. The SOB will do mid to low 12s in the snow (joking, but not far off). The car is stuck like glue. It is really expensive and not worth the money to be honest. I replaced it with an 02 Z06.

The deprecitation on the TT is huge. I was concerned with Porsche cranking up production. The 97 TT will probably be worth more than the 996s because of numbers. Porshce is going too main stream - not exclusive anymore.

On performance - the 911 TT feels so stable. 180mph - smooth as can be. Heck, I think the car is too quiet. I prefer the regualr 911 from a noise perspective.

In the rain - the 911 TT is awesome. 140 in the rain - I felt good about it. Some of my friends didn't feel comfortable...but that is a different story.

Now on drag racing - the car launch hard out of the hole but shifting it into 2nd can be next to impossible. I could not get the car to shift quickly. I think a Tiptronic 911 in the quarter will turn high 11s - some mags have show them doing it.

Top end - 911 TT is king.

Now - believe it or not the Z06 out brakes the TT with the big reds. The 911 is 400-500lbs heavier.

I miss the sunroof in the 911.

The repairs on the 911 will kill you. They don't sell an extended warranty on it for a reason.

I had mine 6 months and put 5500 miles on it.

I have a F-250, ZR-1 and Z06.

I have no need to get another TT. They do some things really well, but I will take a Corvette anyday.

I ran one a few months ago and lets just say he will never look at a Z06 the same way again . I had another one pacing me the other day on the highway ... I tossed a rev at him and he backed waaay off and exited. Of course I have a few mods but whose counting. :D

First off to address the ORIGINAL post.
He does not even know if the car is
a new Twin Turbo or a single Turbo
911.While the Z06 and the TT 911
are close the advantage goes to the
911 TT in top speed and with equally
skilled drivers the TT 911 would have a
slight advantage. You get what you pay for.

single turbo 911? Dude what are you talking about? LOL. I honestly think the only guy here who has owned a TT 996 is Tim. It's amazing the amount of BS that goes on. Keep it real kids.

ROTFL..." It was dark and I didn't wanna hit an animal or something." ARE YOU FLIPPIN JOKING ME? Dude, please trade in that ZO6 and buy a vert or something...you are not worthy.

LOL,
The 996TT is all show and very little go! I had mine for five weeks! Drove it hard and put 3200 miles. I couldn't wait to get ride of it. It was the worst car I have ever owned. I can’t tell you all the things are wrong with that car.
I ran a 02 Z06, 50-140mph. I took off fast but he passed me like I was waiting for a parking space. I mean I was humiliated! I sold the car a few days later.
You should of raced him, if not for the experience. The pleasure of stomping one of the world most expensive cars.
I always wanted a Porsche Twin Turbo now that I’ve had one. I laugh every time I see one.
Later,
Tim
maybe you need to learn how to drive :p:
a 911 TT will smoke the Z06 :)

911 TT will not "smoke" a Z06. It all depends on what you are doing. They are both great cars. The Porsche - youi have to pay big to play. Z06 - best bang for the buck.

Yes, I did race mine on drags, road course, scared the poopie out of many people in it. The biggest advantage is the all wheel drive and the sun roof.

I have had a number of Porsches and what do I owe now: a 94 ZR-1 02 Z06 and an 01 F250.

Guess what, you can buy all the 3 above for the price of 1 996 TT.

Ahh, but is the 911 Turbo twice the car the Z06 is? Because its more than twice the price. So are you really getting what you are paying for?

From what I've read and seen of the 911 Turbo, its perhaps 5 to 10% 'better' of a car than the Z06 is.
