Default 911 turbo?

Ok, here is one for ya fellas.

As i was in my drive way today cleaning my beautiful Z, my neighbor pulls in his driveway with a brand new 911 Turbo..
So of course, being the car freak that i am, i had to go over there and talk to him. I asked him if that is his, since i have never seen him in that car, and he says it is his friends who let him drive it around for 1 week for $85/ day. LOL, that was hilarious. I didnt realy get into why he is doing it, but i am guessing because this guy is just a car nut and loves fast cars. Anyways, as i started to go back to my driveway, the expected happend. I hear "Hey, so what do you think? a little run?"
LOL. Now, i am not the type to race, i usually dont race my car. I mean, i do once in a while, but, well, put it this way....i have 23.5 MPG in city driving. :)

So, i say "Man, you don't want a piece of this" you know, being goofy about the whole situation. Then he jumps in the car, throws a little rev, puts down his window and says "Come on man, you got the king of American muscle, lets run"
Well, to make a longer story shorter, i never ended up racing. BUT, it would be interesting to run against a 911 T.
So, what do you guys think? should i have done it? How bad will i loose?
anybody encountered a race against a 911 T? I might do it for the hell of it. I am not the type of guy to cry over a race. If i win, cool, if i dont, oh well. So, i might do it for the giggles. should i do it? or save my-self the embaressment? BTW, i have an 01 Z06 with very light bolt ons. no more then $250. about 10-15 extra hp. This 911 is stock. what do u guys think?

You will win unless you start from a dead stop. Run him from 30mph or up. My friend has an '02 so I know exactly how quick they are.

I would run him somewhere safe. It's not everyday you will have that chance.

Why did you buy this type of car ? How could you wimp out !!! These cars are meant to be driven hard. I have a TT and had a Z06. The Z06 from a roll would win. Drive it like you stole it. Have some fun...

What about mods. What would it take to put the Z06 ahead of the TT from a dead stop? HP level?

Of course you should race him. Safely, of course. Why not? It's not like life or death, you know. It's just for fun. If you win, you'll feel like a king. If you lose, you'll still have had some fun.

I ran one a few months ago and lets just say he will never look at a Z06 the same way again . I had another one pacing me the other day on the highway ... I tossed a rev at him and he backed waaay off and exited. Of course I have a few mods but whose counting. :D

hey guys.
ya, i mean, to me it doesnt matter if i won or loose. I just race, when i do, for the fun of it. So, i decided that i am gonna gow tih this guy. It will be fun. Heck, its not everyday i get the chance to run against a TT. If i win, that will be cool, if i dont, that will be cool too, considering the fact that i am sure if i loose, it will not be more then a .5 cars lenght. Again, it will be fun, and i dont care what the outcome will be. stay tuned as i will let you know what will happen..:)

It does not come down to power, but more about traction. The AWD TT will kill you out of the hole. You will need a very good set of slicks to run him from a dead stop.

Zlish: He will take you unless you are fully on the car wringing all its got. You need practice on this if you are averaging 24mpg so go practice. A '02 Z should be a dead heat.

I raced several of these when my car was mild cam and heads. I have also played with them at the track (roadrace tracks), but my car is different now.

I would say stock vs. stock a very close race. So close that if either one of you makes even just one small mistake (bad launch, miss shift, hit the rev limiter, etc.) it would make the difference between winning and losing. If you haven't raced much, then your best hope is that this guy hasn't either and doesn't know how to properly drive the 911.

Make sure your traction control is turned off before you race him ;)

Also, since this guy is "renting" the TT from his "friend" (odd), he's not likely to launch it hard enough for AWD to make a difference. I know if I borrowed (or rented  ) a TT from a friend (like any of mine have one), I'd have a hard time revving it to near redline and dumping the clutch--unless he was with me and told me to go for it. :)

If you redline it and dump the clutch, it won't go anywhere and you'll be buying a new clutch. I own one, you can't launch it like that.

I asked by buddy Tim (C54Tim) to respond to your post. He had a 2001 911 TT i.e. 996 TT. I'll let him tell you the real deal about going head to head with a 02 Z06.

LOL,
The 996TT is all show and very little go! I had mine for five weeks! Drove it hard and put 3200 miles. I couldn't wait to get ride of it. It was the worst car I have ever owned. I can’t tell you all the things are wrong with that car.
I ran a 02 Z06, 50-140mph. I took off fast but he passed me like I was waiting for a parking space. I mean I was humiliated! I sold the car a few days later.
You should of raced him, if not for the experience. The pleasure of stomping one of the world most expensive cars.
I always wanted a Porsche Twin Turbo now that I’ve had one. I laugh every time I see one.
Later,
Tim

Here it is. They are fast. I have just a Donaldson on my 01 Z06, and it dynoed higher than a stock 02 Z06 on the same dyno, same day. 360hp/363tq. So, one night, I happened to follow a silver 02 Turbo onto a the highway. Well, I was behind him. We had to merge around a car in front of us. We started at 50 single file and then broke side by side and took it up to about 155 mph. We were even until I hit 4th gear and I start pulling closer. I gained about half a car length, since I started from behind him, but that is all got. We ran out of real estate, so I let off at 155. Pretty much dead even race, although I think I would have passed him if we kept going. Wish I had my Buick that night so I could have raced him from 0-125 since I've made some more mods to the Buick... Good thing that the Z06 doesn't even need real modifications to hang:)

So TurboTn: You picked up about 25-30rwhp/rwtrq from an air intake? I have never seen that here in California.

Interesting. I've heard of many owners/mags doing that, with no broken clutches. If what you say is true, what a POS! I can't believe people would pay over a $100k for those things.

I don't think it picked up any more than normal, it just started with more power than other 01 LS6's I guess. I beat an 02 Z06 with the stock airbox in place... I dunno what to say, it was fast before the intake:) Next time I dyno it, I will do so with the stock 01 airbox and factory filter, just to see what it puts down.
