My 01 Zo6 sat for about a year I just jumped it and found this code "Service Column Lock"
I'm wondering if someone could expand my knowledge before I call a dealer for help?
My opinion...
1. Don't "jump it" charge the battery properly
2. LMC5; buy it, install it, never worry again
In agreement with grantv. Jumping the c5 always stirs up gremlins and can mess with the ECU. Get yourself a new battery and a trickle charger. Then order the LMC5 kit and do the install in your garage/driveway. Don't forget or forego the brown wire step!
what about clear the code?
see if it returns?
I can't stat the thought of the column locking up and a tow
And I'm really not a fan of going to the dealer
column has not locked just got the warning light
U don't recommend the dealer repair? just this on line fix?
chances are if you disconnect the battery and fully charge it and reconnect it, clear all your DIC codes the light will go away
this is the 2nd or 3rd GM "fix" that they guarantee will fix it but.....I used a CLB plug and play device for years with no drama, now people are using the LMC thing which to me seems like more work and you may or may not have to do a brown wire mod...I dunno...I am not familiar with it all but in any case there are ways to defeat the issue....there is an entire thread dedicated to the issue at the top of C5 Tech.....read it and make your decision on what to do
LMC5 is a permanent repair, and it's cheap, and takes only a few minutes to install (and the owner is always available for help).
I'd start with a charge and load test at a battery store. Then see how things are...
If you want to charge at home, make sure you have a suitable charger (AGM battery? Special charger)
