Making Waves
Nearly always gave and got the wave in Michigan, C1 through C7. I was schooled by my boss (C5 owner) in the tradition when I bought my first Vette (C6) in 2016. I just moved from southeast Michigan to western Nebraska last summer. In my current subdivision everybody waves to everybody else, regardless of what their ride is or if they are walking. Weird to be so friendly, eh? I'm enjoying it. I haven't seen too many other Corvette drivers here in our small town yet, and almost all are in hibernation now until the spring thaw.

I have been waving since I bought my car. Nearly all the Corvette owners here in southwest Florida wave. It is brought up regularly at the Corvette Club meetings and events. I love the camaraderie. If it's raining, we flash our headlights. Corvette ownership is a great community to belong to. I'm proud and I show it!

I wave either give or get them. When I wave at another Corvette and I get the "HUH" look, I figure that they haven't gotten the memo yet. Then, I usually notice that they have a front license plate which is a total violation of the CC&Rs (Corvette Code of Regulations). and I figure they must not be a true Corvette enthusiast. Oh well, at least they are not driving a car that came over on a boat.

I usually wave, provided the other party is not 6 lanes over on the expressway. This was for many years a customary, well, custom among not only Corvettes, but Porsches (usually a flash of the headlights) and still lives among many bikers, though my experience shows me there seems to be a line drawn between Cruisers and Sport bike riders.
Let's face it., there are far more Corvettes and other "wave worthy" cars on the roads these days and they are not always driven by enthusiasts. Besides, some of us old "Greybeards" have arthritic joints and sometimes it hurts to wave.

Waves
I've been waving since I got my Vette back in 83. It's an 81 in pretty good shape. A survivor in original conditions, 4sp, 350. Anyway waving seems to have dwindled these days. Mostly the newer corvette owners either don't want to, don't care, don't know, don't have a clue, or just look down on us that have the older Vette's. Can't say for sure. Used to be 99% waived back,but that's not he case today. Sad really. Always look forward to seeing other Vette's, whatever the vintage, and waving at them, hoping they return the gesture. Of course ya gotta consider that the newer ones have all the technology gadgets and do dad's that keep many busy (read distracted) while gong down the road, so maybe that's the reason.. Stay safe out there.

First heard of the Corvette Wave while riding in a friends C3 back in the seventies. Was shown to coolly lift the index finger, while the other fingers are still wrapped on the steering wheel, as a salute to the other Corvette meaning "got mine". I've been waving since 1984. Now, though it seems it's a full hand wave while the thumb is still grasps the wheel.

Just bought my 02 last month and every time I’ve had it out and driving it I’ve gotten the wave. Kinda shocked me last Monday when a C7 waved. I always wave back or try to wave first. So at least here in the Wichita KS vicinity it’s alive and well.

Been waving in PA since 94, started in a C4 and now in a C6. I make it very obvious and do it early in our passing so the other driver has a chance to respond. I would say I get a response 99% of the time.

Live about one hour north-east of Toronto, not a high percentage of Corvettes on the road up here but those that are seem pretty responsive. I've missed seeing the odd Corvette as they sneak past me and I catch 'the wave' out of the corner of my eye but I 'try' to be 100% as do about 90% passing the other way. Up here in Canada where its six months of winter and six months of lousy sledding, maybe we store all that energy up over the winter months and can't wait to release it in the summer.

I'm on my 8th Corvette, my first being a brown metallic 1974 coupe (wish I still had that), and my current is a 2016 Z51 Torch Red coupe. I've lived in Los Angeles (where The Wave is not so prevalent) for 33 years. I lived in Pittsburgh, PA before that and currently (where The Wave seems to be alive and well). I think the difference is that in LA, my Corvettes were daily drivers, and there are a lot more of them on the road, year round. I only drive my C7 6 months a year here in the 'Burgh, and I don't nearly see as many Corvettes on the road as I did in LA, hence, fewer Waves. It doesn't bother me if my Wave isn't returned, as that could be for a number of reasons: like actually paying attention to traffic, or shifting a manual, or just plain seeing another Corvette too late to Wave (guilty!). But I will say that I enjoy making the Wave and that return Waves are a pleasant reminder of being a part of the lucky group of Corvette owners and drivers. I guess I don't understand why anyone wouldn't Wave (other than those aforementioned reasons). 👋

I was with mrs.savewave, driving her Ford SUV recently and waved at an oncoming Corvette.
mrs.savewave: Why are you waving? They don't know you have a Corvette.

savewave: I get where you are coming from when I'm not driving the Vette and encounter one. I usually give a thumbs up instead of a Wave. But on further thought, a Wave sends the message you know what's up because you drive (or used to) drive a Vette. So, from now on, I'll always Wave when I encounter another Vette, whatever I'm driving.

I am mulling this over but I may have to stop waving at passing Corvette's as I find it impossible to determine during the summer which ones were driven in the winter as they pass by and I don't want to make a mistake.....

Corvette Wave
Live in Eastern Pa, (outside of Pittsburgh) and I have a 2007 C6 Vette. When I pass another Vette no matter what the year, I always wave. Used to ride motorcycles for a long time and it was common place to wave to other riders, but not all waved back. I believe it's just a neat gesture to do with other Vettes. Kind of a "brotherhood" acknowledgement of other Vette owners.
A lot of people out there just don't like Vettes for some odd reason (maybe jealousy!), so we have to stick together.
