I'm a newer Vette owner. I just got mine back in March of last year. I remember like it was yesterday the first time I passed a Vette in my Z06. I got the wave and thought "holy crap, that's cool!" I'd say 3 out of 4 times, I'll get a wave here in Chicagoland. I always try and return it, but sometimes, I'm going too fast or in the middle of running through the gears or something.
I was always looking for a wave back, not any more. I wave and don't look too see if they wave back. I even wave when I'm not in the Vette. Maybe its the corvette I'm waving at and not the driver.
my wife thinks its hysterical when I wave to a vette while in my crosstrek.

I recall once in my C5 Vert on a really beautiful day w/top down, I was traveling on the highway and another vert w/top down on the lanes in the other direction, the girl in the passengers seat semi-stood up, above the roof line and waved w/both arms in the air. I was driving so I just waved with my arms up high as I could in return. I could see all 3 of us were laughing and driver of other cars probably thought we were nuts (mighta been right ). I'd say that was the most animated wave I ever got.
Most C5 guys wave most of the time. C4 and C2 guys, almost always. C3 guys will nearly jump out of the car while moving to wave. LOL! For some reason the C3 guys tend to get really excited when they see another Vette. C6 guys, not so much. C7 guys look at me as if I threw them the bird when I wave. Someone needs to send the C7 guys the memo.
I wave every time I see another Corvette, it’s an automatic wave. I keep my eye on the other car but it’s so dark inside the other Corvette, I honestly don’t know if the waved back or not. I just go on about my way with a positive mindset that they did wave back. It’s kind of like a tree in the forest, if the tree fell down and no one saw it, did the tree fall down. Having a few Harley Davidson motorcycles, not only do HD riders wave but Sport Bike riders wave to each other and HD riders, pretty much all the time. Each likely being more serious MC riders. In fact, many MC riders wave to each other no matter the brand but for one group of riders, Goldwing riders. In over 50 years of riding MC and Corvettes, I have had maybe 2 or 3 Goldwing riders wave to me but most Corvette drivers do wave. It’s much easier to see the wave back out in the open on a MC.
I live in North East Ohio and you can expect near 100% of fellow vette enthusiast wave. I can be in the 62' or the GS and the waves come. Even on major divided highways. Though the wave is expanded to your arm stretching above the windshield.

While it took a couple of years, The C4 became a car that could slug it out with the best of them...especially in the handling dept... and to me (especially the pre-refresh version) is an iconic design that still looks good.
Had they, in the beginning put as much attention into the engine, transmission, and NVH reduction as they did into the "gee wiz" dashboard, the C4 would have been taken much more seriously when it was introduced.
Unfortunately, they rushed it to market and saddled it with an anemic engine, and then, they let it linger way too long after it should've been put out to pasture (13 years....seriously?). Ideally, there should have been a generation sandwiched between the C3 and C4 because the C3 lasted way too long also.
Live about one hour north-east of Toronto, not a high percentage of Corvettes on the road up here but those that are seem pretty responsive. I've missed seeing the odd Corvette as they sneak past me and I catch 'the wave' out of the corner of my eye but I 'try' to be 100% as do about 90% passing the other way. Up here in Canada where its six months of winter and six months of lousy sledding, maybe we store all that energy up over the winter months and can't wait to release it in the summer.
Guess I'll add it to the generic motorcycle wave, the BMW motorcycle wave, the bicycling wave, the pontoon boat wave, the theres bikes on your car wave, the hey youve got a beard too wave, and when I'm driving around in the Jeeps at work, the Jeep wave....
When I first got my C5 I was amazed that most Corvette owners would wave. I didn't really expect it. Now I think it is kinda cool. Life is short - have fun!
I've waved for years. Most wave back. With the tinted windows and sunlight hitting them, sometimes it's difficult to see if they wave back, especially on the interstates. Sometimes, when I'm in my truck, I forget and wave at Corvettes.
