I believe that the cd audio plugin adapter will provide a much better sound. This is simply because the cd side of the radio provide’s a much improved audio range over the cassette tape adapter. Remember how much better cd’s sounded when you heard a album over a identical cassette tape copy. There where a few hi-end cassette players made that rivaled reel to reel tape decks put they where very expensive and all where set up for 110/220 volts ( home use). Any adapter using a cassette is limited to that format. AND ANY ADAPTER regardless if it’s a cd/cassette is limited by quality of the signal from the host devices. Unfortunately a iPhone (IOS) is also limited by design, Android, particularly some of the Sony’s phones can send high def signals straight though a cd hook up for the best sound. Or a dedicated Hi-Def player is another option. Apple does not seem to care about audio quality. And that’s a shame because I use there products exclusively.
Please remember I am not a audio engineer and this is all in my humbled opinion. And I am certainly open to correction. So let the rebuttal’s begin.
Well, it was great while it lasted. After about 90 minutes, music stopped. Looked at my phone and there are no devices connected. Tried unplugging and replugging several tries, and no luck. Device is just not recognized anymore.
I've never had great success with non-apple lightning cables. I wonder if this is the problem?
BodymanBob- I know CD's (digital) have higher quality audio sound than cassettes (analog), but with the ambient road and wind noise in the standard C5, that difference in sound quality is not easily distinguished, If you spend gobs of time and money soundproofing your car, then a serious audio upgrade could be warranted if that's the way you want to go. The pleasure in my car is to hear the sounds it makes and enjoy it, not to ride around in a sound booth. I just chose a much easier path to accomplish my goal - to be able to listen to chosen music on a long road trip when out of range of a decent (or any) FM station. Just my personal opinion.
I ended up returning the iL-C5 because it was defective. Ordered the BLU-C5 instead.
A few issues with the BLU-C5. On startup, I had to open the phone and start the music every time. It would not start automatically. Also, I powered the unit with the yellow accessory pigtail, but I would get interference when the turn signal was on, then the unit would restart which required restarting the music on my phone.
i ended up returning the BLU-C5 as well.
i went back to my $15 FM/Bluetooth adapter from amazon. Used it for many hours without a hiccup, and it always connects and starts whenever I turn the car on.
while disassembling the dash for the fourth time, I modded the power lead to my accessory outlet. I installed a relay on the RAP signal wire to keep the outlet powered whenever the RAP circuit is powered. Works great.
I use the Discount Car Stereos harness wired from the back CD Unit. Took 10 minutes to hook up and works great. I ordered last November. Looks like the site is down - don't know how long it's been that way. I took them as a small business.
I ordered the IL-C5 from Discount Car Stereo and received it today. I have a 2004 Convertible with the 12 Disc CD Changer in the trunk. I disconnected the 12 Disc CD Changer and plugged the cord from it into the adapter provided which then plugs into the iSimple box. You then plug the 6 ft. iPhone Lightning cable into the iSimple box. Great sound. Definitely CD quality. Played music from from my iTunes library and Pandora on my iPhone 7. Activated Apple Maps in my in my iPhone and the directions played through the Bose speakers. Charges the iPhone. Only problem is the Lightning cable is only 6 ft. long and isn’t long enough to reach my dash from where it is connected to the iSimple box in the trunk. I have an iPhone holder that mounts to the dash vents but the Lightning cable doesn’t reach it. Don’t want to put my iPhone in the center counsel because it gets to hot in there and I can’t see it or get to it easily while driving. Will have to look into other alternatives on where I can put my iPhone so it is secure.
I identified a workaround for the 6 ft. cable length issue. I bought a motor cycle/bicycle handle bar cell phone holder. I attached it to the hand brake handle next to the center counsel. The 6 ft. cable is no longer a problem. Works perfectly and can use the hand brake if needed. I think it is better than having the cell phone holder attached to the center air vent or to the front dash. My cell phone is easily accessible.
