If it's not coolant, maybe it's the dye in the freon to check for leaks. Get a good light or U/V light and look for where it might be coming out of the A/C system..

If he has stock GM fill of Dexcool, it's Red, so It's not Antifreeze/coolant.
My guess, like JR-01 said, is it's Freon dye. might want to check for leaks. They make a light kit that pics up that dye, which is really just a black light.
