The Corvette has to evolve if it is going to be competitive. This new platform will appeal to younger buyers thereby keeping the marque alive into the future. I think Chevy nailed it. It looks good and it will have a following. It will take some getting used to by us old school guys but we’ll get there.
From the looks to performance and mid engine architecture I'm a fan. Someday I will own one, but I'm in no hurry. I'm sure there are plenty of bugs to work out and I'm not interested in helping with beta testing. Still very much enjoying my C5 that I've only had four years.
Love the look from the side view. Back end is fugly, front end a little better but not much. Just plain do not like the interior, looks awfully cramped and I don't like digital readouts. I want a manual trans in my fun cars, don't much care how advanced or fast auto trans have become. I like the driver involvement with a manual. So far it is a no go for me. I'm waiting to see one in person and maybe I'll change my mind, we'll see, but I doubt it. The jury is still out!
I'm just not a fan of the all the euro-styling, and in fact I would like to see a retro-themed design that harkens back to the C2 era. For all the vents and honeycomb mesh and square(!) tail lights, for me it just keeps getting farther and farther away from the vehicle I know and love to be the Corvette.
Of course these are just my opinions, and many thanks for the opportunity to share some thoughts on the new C8.

I really enjoyed my C5s (3 of them) and now am enjoying my C7 (and yes, I love the styling of it, even the back end), but the new C8 is going to be stiff competition for many exotics. It has the performance and technology that the Corvette needed to move into the future. Are there potential faults with the car - no doubt people will find something to complain about. It won't appeal to everyone no matter what GM comes out with. Bottom line is if you don't like it, continue to enjoy the Corvette you currently have - nothing at all wrong with that. Or find another brand to purchase if you want something new other than the brand new C8 Corvette. There have been no reviews that I know of on the C8, so I plan to wait for the major magazines to test drive it, hear feedback from actual owners once the car hits the market and base an opinion on it once I have had a chance to actually see one in person.
The good news is you don't have to look at the back end of the car while your driving it. The bad news is you will have to look at that dumb steering wheel.
Agree not a big fan but maybe in time so I will continue to enjoy driving my c5 and c6
Great responses, enjoyable reading to say the least.
Well I am no rich guy, just a retired musician on a budget friendly pension, So the C8 will be out of my league anyway for awhile. I will say it's quite a machine.
My next vette ?? Oh do I like the basic model C7 convertibles..those '14's are starting to get pretty cheap and I have seen some 7's I like that don't have all the spoilers and extra gills and stuff for a much cleaner look.
But for now I still love my 5.
I have owned 11 vettes over the last 35 yrs..lot's of good ones and some real beaters.
I had 4 Vetts, 2 C2's, C3 (76) & C5 and each had its performance and styling points. The C2's are a great looking Vette's, performance was great for its time, the 76 was the low point for the marque, styling was ok, performance was abominable, same outdated swing arm suspension as a C2, the power was awful from its over burdened smogged 350, but it was a Vette, the C5 was the beginnings of a supercar, a new suspension double wishbone front and rear, LS1 light, powerful and reliable. Now the C8 mid engine, it's the next performance point for the car, interior has moved into new area that I applaud, exterior styling is contemporary, can't wait to see one on the street. Hopefully I see one for myself in the future
If the Corvette has to ‘evolve’ why are the C1 and C2 cars the big money cars?
Because they are "old school". and old farts like me. think owning a car we had as a kid makes us feel young again. 30 years from now Honda Civics will be the high dollar collectables.
It looks like a midengined Civic Type R; edgy, flashy, venty, egg-crated to heck and back. Very busy design language.
I'll take mine in Black so the styling doesn't look so schizophrenic.
Looking forward to a re-body in a few years (C8.2 or C9); I'm betting the 'edgy' styling craze will be dying off and Chevy will make the design more flowing. More like this, which is what C&D predicted a while back. Much prettier shape to my eye.

I could not agree more! For me the most beautiful of all Corvettes was the '67 big block coupe, black with red stinger, alloys and side exhaust. Simply gorgeous! From the C7 and now to the C8, the sharply creased and edgy look has left me somewhat cold. I'm still looking forward to seeing the C8 in person though. Best wishes to all!
