That's the good thing about Corvettes...it doesn't matter if they're dated, they're still cool and always will be!
This ^^^^^^^^^^^!! The people that stop and look at mine (quite often) have NO idea what year is is. If the top is down they are usually all over it, especially the older guys (like me)!! I love it, love driving it, and love "looking back at it" when I park it!!
It has been mentioned more than once here that, to the casual observer/admirer, the car gets mistaken for a "new/modern" model. Every non-Corvette enthusiast who has complimented me on my car does a double-take when I tell them it's 19 years old. The body styling is free flowing and knows no specific era, though looking closely to the interior of the car will be the only real giveaway that it's from a much earlier time.
"Dated" seems to be a term that denotes a thing to be quaint, antiquarian, out-of-touch, or obviously out of place in today's world. Based on the overwhelmingly positive attention my 19 yr old car receives, as well as the inability of most people to accurately place the vehicle's age at being more than a few years old, those descriptions of being dated do not apply to the C5. Mods are a big part of keeping the looks fresh and exciting, and I'm grateful that there is still a large market for C5 modifications! The only cosmetic things I've modded are the smoked DRL's, new rims (even though they are still the OEM sizes of 17 and 18"), Borla dual pipes, and some interior cosmetics (painting the center console to match the body). "Timeless" is the word that I would use, and has already been mentioned in a previous post; it's worth repeating!
Hell no, I own 3 of them for this reason. Everyone of them is different. Everyone of them still turns heads and gets thumbs up from other drivers. I don't see myself getting rid of any of them though I still see a C8 in the future.

I think there is some confusion with the definition of the word "dated" in this thread.
It sounds like some people are taking it as meaning "no one likes it anymore", or "doesn't get attention anymore". That's not what dated means.
The C5 is 100% dated. If someone who didn't know anything spent any amount of time with one, it would be clear as day it's a product of the 90s. It has a casette played for God sakes.
let me ask a couple questions, 1. how many newer cars have HUD ???
2. how many have AH ???
3. do they all have a DIC ???
4. I know they can't retrieve codes !!!!!
5. how many have 350 plus HP and get 25 mpg plus on the highway ???
6. how many have the fun factor ???
7. the styling seems timeless to me !!!
8. I know some LS engines have some issues, (not any more than the avg car) but for the most part indestructible !!! (can go well beyond 150 k)
well more than a couple questions
I have the C5R kit and cannot think of having a C5 without one. Everyone thinks it came stock on the 50th anniversary Corvette. This kit came from Mid America and fitment/quality excellent. Could not use the chin spoiler here as the roads are not good.
I have two cars, a 2015 ss Camaro and a 1997 C5. I've thought about this a lot. If I only had time to move one car it would be the dated C5 with the CD player. No cassette. Don't forget to wave

Mine came with a CD head unit, no cassette, SO.....my car is not dated....lol
I have to admit that I've been caught up in the C8 hype like everyone else and have been kicking around what it would take to make the upgrade to a C8 possible for me (kids in college etc...). But then I fire the LS7 in my C5 up and roll in to Cars n Coffee and park next to late model iron, I feel pretty good about my C5. It's old enough now that it is unique (at least where I live in the DC area), it has the rumble of a built LS7, and FRC's are even rarer. IDK, I think it is a perfect combo of old school (analogue) and modern suspension. The best part of it is that it is paid for, insurance is cheap, as is personal property tax. It's fast as hell. If I had unlimited funds, I'd keep this Z and add a C8. Maybe one day...
Love. Love. LOVE FRC C5s. The only thing that kept me out of one is the... dated interior GASPS!!
Here me out. The interior is gorgeous. I remember it from the armor all commercial, "NEW CAR IN A BOTTLE" and they had the slicked up, black C5 interior. PERFECT!
It's just the seat belts don't have the slider clasp thing, it's a Y-type. I hate that. Just looks like it's from the 90s (because it is). And the key ignition. I haven't really seen an add-on for wireless key fobs. Sounds trivial, but after not having to touch a key or fob over the last five years, no going back! Also, my buddies C5 had the super dim AC display, had to put the new capacitors in?
Shoot, the blue HUD on the C6s feel dated now that other brands have the color HUD with tire temp and all that(!)
Not at all but that C8 looks massive. I'll keep our Z16 but for the first time since the C5 Z06 was released a new Corvette has my attention with the C8. Starting to wonder if one will fit in my garage...and I don't mean because of other toys, I mean actually fit through the door!
