Is there anywhere that a vendor or audio store sells a complete double din upgrade package? I'm talking the HU, wiring (adapters if needed), bezel, faceplate, and anything else that's required. I've gone to several audio stores locally and really don't have the confidence to hand them the keys and let them tear out my dash. I can't find anyone that knows and does Corvettes. From the DIY posts on the forum as well as the various videos available, I feel as though I can do it if I have all the parts. I don't plan to change the factory speakers...
There used to be, a place called Double D Mods. Unfortunately, he no longer does Vettes. But on the bright side, VetteNuts probably can get you most of it.
The speakers make all the difference and are very easy to change. Vette nuts has the bezels, sub boxes, subs. There are so many posts in the audio section that doing it is pretty easy. Crutchfield can set you up with whatever you want and with a 60 day return policy they are the best I found to deal with. The Vett nuts bezel is more expensive than the metra but its considered much higher quality as well as their corner sub.
I too soooooo recommend upgrading the stock speakers. It's not hard to do (I've done two C5's and fixing to do a third). I recommend using a plate for the fronts like this https://www.ebay.com/itm/1997-2004-C...gAAOSwL-xcLo53 and the rears can be left alone or easily replaced with 6.5" speakers (coupe) or 5.25" (vert and fixed). The "third" C5 I'm about to do has an aftermarket double din using the factory system, it sounds like crap! The stock system in my other 99 (it does have a aftermarket subwoofer though) sounds way better.
And make sure the HU has a paramtric eq and time delay.
Replacing tge front speakers with components takes an afternoon if you do it right..
I like focals..
I am one of the later customers of DDMODS, and I still regret, for other’s sakes that he does not do vettes anymore.
Installing a new HU that allows apps like Apple Car Play is the single mod that updates the C5 like no other.
Regardless, it’s not a difficult job. I’m perfectly fine with the stock speakers and always have been with both my C5’s, but I spend most of my time listening to the “Corsa Speakers” in the rear of the car, and when I listen to the stereo, it’s usually to respond to Siri.
If I were doing the job now, I would look carefully at both available bezels, then a GOOD wiring harness, (DD’s was plug and play except for ONE wire), brackets (DD also provided good ones), at least a backup camera and then take your time.
I had an entire system done by Double D Mods just a month before he stopped doing Corvettes. I got JL speakers, a subwoofer and an amp as part of the package.
While the JLs are better than the Bose that were replaced, I'm on the fence as to whether it was worth it. However, the modern head unit, giving me Android Auto and Sirius XM, is transformative. Very much worth the investment. I commute in my car, so music, news, etc. while stuck in traffic is very helpful.
The bezel is the key, and others make it. If you have a double din bezel, any good car audio shop can do the rest.

AFAIK the only bezels available are from Metra or Vettenuts. At the time DDMODS was winding down the corvette activity, Vettenuts started making their version of the bezel which was a direct copy of stock, with the double din opening. Metra came soon after, with mods like eliminating the ashtray door and changing the cupholder to be lidless.
From my own observation and ‘low budget polling” (in my head) it seems like the Vettenuts unit is the better of the 2 for a few reasons, while owners of the Metra are also happy with theirs. The big difference is the texture of the surface and how close it matches the car. The Metra needs some creative treatment/paint to get as close to the stock unit.
I looked @ double din for a long time, ended up removing the factory stereo and blanking it off, installed a Bluetooth only stereo - phone is the headunit - no regrets, works GREAT!

@bc6152 This is very doable. You can create your own upgrade package using better components and probably for less money, while handpicking a headunit with exactly the features you want. You may want to take a look at this Post for details on how to proceed
I used the Metra bezel, xsvi-2004, and Atoto A6y2721PB + backup camera. Gives me full android capability.
I also added a super capacitor. Very happy with the result.
