I use a Bluetooth to radio adapter. This is certainly the easiest way to connect a MP3 player. It’s the only way I’m aware of with out modifications to the stock radio or to replace it.
I did this several months ago for about $65. Works flawlessly. It took me a lot of research to put my "kit" together, but it was well worth it, so I'm happy to share:
- iSimple PXDP (note: you want the PXDP, NOT PXDX, very important). I found a used unit on eBay for $25, but they're only about $60 brand new IIRC - PXHGM4 harness (this will plug in to the back of your head unit in the cd changer port and into the PXDP). Best price I found was about $15 shipped from Discount Car Stereo - 30 pin bluetooth receiver of your choice (choose carefully for the option you want. I wanted hands-free as well, so I went with a $20 ZIOCOM unit from Amazon)
To touch on why you want the PXDP now: the PXDP has a 30 pin cable that was designed for an iPod...this cable not only delivers audio, but more importantly, power. If you go with the PXDX, you will have to figure out a way to power your bluetooth receiver and/or remember to take it out and charge it frequently. With the 30 pin cable set up, it's set it and forget it.
I trimmed out a hole in the ash tray compartment and used double-sided tape to stick it right inside the ash tray compartment. When I need to talk on the phone, lift up the door and the mic is exposed (I've used it a couple times so far and although far from ideal being that it's sitting near the firewall and above the torque tube of a sports car with limited insulation...it's still better than nothing and a conversation is manageable). When I don't, the door is closed and nothing is visible.
I'm more than happy with the set up and I even sold the CD changer to a nice lady that needed music for her road trip
Have you considered adding an Aux input jack to the OEM headunit?
You can do this via DIY for just $3 following this step-by-step write-up, or by sending the OEM headunit to one of the available vendors that provide this service.

Thanks, for this task entails for just one connector, I think it would be just simpler to replace the entire radio with something more modern, USB to play the media on the USB key, Bluetooth for phone, ect.

The Aux Input Jack brings some degree of connective flexibility to people who want to keep their car stock. If you'd like to consider going this other way instead, you may want to take a look at this Post for a summary of the available options and details on how to proceed
I bought this quite a while ago. Took out the worthless change-would not play home burned CDs- Just remove the changer and plug and play using the changer harness. Control volume, forward & reverse selections. Charges IPOD too. Good luck. https://www.sonicelectronix.com/item...xoCMkkQAvD_BwE

That unit sounds interesting because I'm not using the CD Changer right now and connecting it with the existing wiring would be terrific. Now if I can get an inexpensive unit that plays music off of a USB stick or SD card, I'm done.
I bought this and installed in my 04. It allowed me to use IPhone music library it also charged iPhone. You still used radio controls for vol, forward etc. I had it in car for 5 years and worked great ! I traded car in and was still working great . The model I bought was for NON cd changer sense you have cd changer make sure to order correct model for radio with cd changer. Dave
