Default License Plates

Had to update my license plates this month so I opted for this one. VA leads the country in personalized plates becaus they are inexpensive. About 16% are pesonalized. I was somewhat surprised that this one was not taken.

I like it and not even the personalized part. It could say 1234567 and that's an awesome plate.

That's pretty specific call out, unlike people's names, business affiliations, etc, so I'm not really all that surprised. My plate has my initials on it, for my DD Jeep, and my 'Vette has my initials and the number 2. I've had the "number 2" plate since 1974......

My wife's plate has JLF-DEF for our initials. My truck has DEF-JLF. My initials, DEF, which is part of my user name. Maybe you can guess the rest.

The reason my plate on the Corvette has the number 2, is because back when my father and I wanted to get the personalized plates, it was treated as a "spiff" in NY, only for drivers who had a clean license, for the 3 previous years. Both my father's and my initials were the same, so we requested the plates with the numbers 1 and 2. 1 was already assigned to someone, while 2 wasn't, so DMV gave me 2, and told my father that the next plate in sequence, that was available, was 4. He thought that was OK with him, so he took it and had it a year or two, at which point he died.

I took over 4, on my at-the-time DD, and kept it until a couple of years ago, when I sold the car the plate was on. By that time, I already had gotten my Jeep, and I didn't want to go through the hassle with DMV, again, to keep the number 4 plate, so sadly, I just let it go...
