Grandpa1,

Thanks for the Tip !! The right angle only doesn't fit on one side, odd. I've read the instructions at least twice, but I'll check again..

Kill People. ???

Most tires stores around here and those in smaller towns all have installed Scissor jacks. Of course none works underneath them. I've made it a habit over the last few decades to ask the store employee regarding these scissor jacks. I've always wanted one but these commercial units too expensive for my shop / tools expenditures., until now. But, none of them ever failed, still every store was cautions.

I worked many years on Cars utilizing Bottle Jacks and Floor Jacks over several decades. I remember how thrilled I was getting my first Floor Jack, which was used. But even so, I always used multiple Jack Stands to hold up the Car that was Jacked up in the Air and would ease off the Floor Jack, but always left one or two Floor Jacks under the Car for extra measure. Safely First that my Dad drilled into my head.

After the Army and during College a Guy I knew (barely) Killed Himself under a Car. He had used a Floor Jack to raise this Car up in the air on one front Corner. This Guy asked another Guy (a good friend of mine to this day) to get inside the Car and Start the Engine. YES, absolutely Stupid. He was making some adjustment, I don't remember what, too long ago.. What was really stupid was he Insisted the Guy in the drivers seat with engine running to place this Automatic Transmission into Gear, wild Cam. Yep, the Car moved and the Floor Jack moved and the Car fell and literally Squished Him.

The car was a V8 with Automatic Trany conversion in a Vega, with a hot Cam etc etc, wild idle and not what I would call properly installed nor safe, disaster on wheels... He had two brothers and they were always building Cars that where not safe and living on the edge, most of us thought one or more of them would be injured or killed in a Car accident.

A stupid accident that affected his family badly . My friend who was in the Car was an absolute mess mentally for a long time. The look on his Face when I first talked with him after was honorable. Some images are just Stuck in our Brain. Now I even check my Jack Stands several times, even when just changing a tires or a brake job fro friends.

I wasn't there, but the aftermath for my good friends and this Guys brothers was horrible. I didn't know their parents, but it must have been hard on both of them.

I feel that a Scissor Jack is safer to rise a Car at both ends, less labor on our selves, and simple to put jack stands under for safety.

Even now I still think about a car Lift or floor jack failing, and I still walk the perimeter of a car lift rather than walk underneath to get on the other side.

Default QJ hangers

Don't buy them unless you like wrestling with heavy weights in awkward positions. No way will I risk my back trying to take the QJ down to the floor from those! They'll look good for my hoses manual and blocks though lol!

Default QJ mods

I've been working on my car AND QJ. I painted the lock points white so I could see the lock mechanism better. Black on black wasn't working for me. I also found a great way IMO to have redundancy on the safety issue, though I agree that the way it's designed it appears to be a pretty as safe as jack stands. I put my jack stands under the quick jack in the front and back. I have to use a 2×8 piece in the front (decal side) but the one in the back is solid on the floor. I need to kind of shim it up to be perfect but for a critical failure I'm good with it. My jack stands don't lock up completely snug, in other words. The other small thing I did was put those little stick on slider things that come in different sizes. I can slide my QJ across my garage floor much easier now. A big deal for THIS older guy!

SAS22,

Good tips, esp the White paint.

I also utilize jack stands, with the pins. Plus often a few left over Glue Lam ends under the frame.
Poly sliders work well, I've used them on all kinds of odd places.

This scissor jack will be occupied for quite a while. I have to replace all of the suspension bushings on my old Vette, front and rear, then time to check the half shafts and driveline again...

Thanks for the tips !!

Michael..

I got mine from Home Depot for 1200 and free shipping. Some guys on here paid 900 at Costco. Costco.com dropped their price to 1100 AFTER I bought mine.

Trans fluid change is a snap... undo the fill plug first, then the drain plug, let 'er drain for a while, drain plug back in & then put fluid in thru fill hole until it starts to run out.
Warm her up first by letting it idle for about 10 minutes, & ensure you have your floor covered & you're wearing disposable clothes... the fluid stinks & the messy, the smell doesn't come out in the wash... and lots of rags handy... there's a writeup here in CF under how-to's...

Yeah I got that done and put in the detent mod (sp?) I wish it would have helped more. I LOVE the Quickjack however. I never thought I'd feel comfortable leaving my car off the ground for a week but this thing is nice! Fast and complete access to the underneath of your car.

You can shake the crap out of the car with no movement. If you are still worried maybe a jack stand between the top and bottom of the QJ. I'm pretty sure a few 2 post lifts have collapsed too....

I would suggest anyone to do whatever they felt was necessary to be safe. A stupid mistake is costly.
I guarantee you I would use jack stands if I felt the least bit uneasy about it.
Good luck!

agreed I just slip my jack stands underneath the lift. It doesn't take but a few minutes and what the hell. It's just that much safer.

Have you tried calling the BendPak Factory ?? I've purchased from them more than once and their customer support was great... Worth try, perhaps they can help or open the doors to Australia and get their products Down Under for a Fair price.

When I received my BendPak drive on lift 7 or 8 years ago, it Looked like this new lift kit was stored outside in the rain and someone had throw some dirt on the parts and boxes, muddy mess. BendPak immediately sent me many new parts including the long members that the car sits on. They even through in a set of Free long aluminum ramps, paint, and etc. I was very surprised and satisfied.

Good luck.

Thanks guys, Quickjack is in Australia that's how I know the $2840 price tag, but yes I can buy direct from the USA but the shipping and $ conversion rate would kill it anyway, I just don't see the value for the dollars when for the same amount I can buy a 2 or 4 post hoist, I just don't have space for these, consider the construction of quickjack and a 4 post hoist, what justify's their cost.

Agree. My drive on 4 post BendPak lift with two sliding jack plates etc was still under $2500

I only needed to raise the car a little to clear so I built a platform to drive onto - three part with the section between the wheels removable so I can slide the QJ into place. Slide them out, remove the dollies, and lift. Also, built a rolling storage cart for the motor and all supplies. All in all, works pretty well.

Very nice!
