The reason for having them on a Motorcycle back in the 60's and 70's was most motorcycles only had one single light in the rear...brake and tail light...turn signals were sketchy and in many cases only worked as turn signals and not as running lights....most choppers and there were lots, didn't have turn signals .. the blue light was an additional light that faced to the rear. The blue light was very noticeable.. which was the idea.. making the motorcycle more noticeable at night.. it was still illegal, but most bikers back then had one
