On the way home from work last Friday, a guy in a new Silver 350Z, did a fly by on me. He was waiting on me at the next light. To make a long story short, without trying real hard (left the traction control on), I beat him pretty bad. He motioned for me to pull over on a side street and I did. He was pi$$ed to say the least. He asked me if I had done anything to my car, and I told him the only thing I had changed were the wheels and mats, other then that the car was show room stock with 1,100 miles on it. He told me the Salesman that sold him his car told him that it would keep up with the new Corvettes. I told him maybe he meant it would keep up with one in a traffic jam. He said he did'nt think it would keep up with that (pointing at my car) even in a traffic jam.
Speedy,
Typical of Japanese.......
They have a mental block at 300 HP........
The 350 has SOME nice lines, but as usual the japanese keep trying to FORCE feed the American sports car buyer to buy what THEY think qualifies as F_A_S_T............
Never happen G.I. :D :chevy
I have to admit I used to have a couple twin turbo 300Z's; one 93 and one 95. Those pushed 300hp stock and were fast for their time at just over 5 seconds 0-60. I beefed the hell out of them and pushed nearly 470 hp and was a tough little car. Granted it is not my Z06 but they had potential. Now they released the next generation and gave them less HP, they weigh more and 0-60 is no better than a Suburu WRX. I am glad I chose my Z06 instead of waiting the release of the 350Z. Nissan made a mistake with the performance on that car.
The Nissan boyeez have a lot RIGHT, on some of their TRADITIONAL car/truck line up....
GM, FORD, Chrysler, etc...could take LESSONS from them on HOW TO....on the art of building engines that STAY together, nearly forever......;)
But, their cultural roots, and idiosyncrasy's are TOO conservative...
They ( if they HOPE) to really deal a blow to the Jugernaut, are going to have to lay down the gaunlet........I KNOW they can, if they just would..
This path, is the way back to near ruin & bankruptcy........ :yesnod:  :cry :nono:
Don't worry - our Government will bail them out. :jester
Funny, last I checked Diesel engines made by Ford, Chevy and Mopar where considered the more reliable and longest lasting engine avaliable.
Gas Engine's are the least reliable as you increase HP/TQ due to the stresses involved. To date the most milage I have on any of MY cars is the old '70 Challenger. She has a 440-6 barrel and is a tad over 200K miles. Still running strong. Someday I'm going to rebuild it - when it needs it.
I curious to see how long the newer engines of today's market will last...
Well done! :chevy However, if Nissan would like to keep up with a Z06, they'll need to convince the Feds to let them export the Skyline GTR/S out here to the US. Otherwise, they just need to stay with 'stangs and such lowly street-race wanna-be's. :nopity

Re: Embarrassed 350Z Driver (rutiger)
I saw a new 350Z with some light mods make a bunch of passes at Englishtown on a cold day. Most runs were low 14s @ 99 MPH. I did see him squeak out a 13.9 @ 99 once.
The Nissan salesman also forgot to tell him a Neon SRT 4 will smoke the 350 to 120 mph by 2.3 seconds (20 vs 22.3). 0-60 is basically identical and street start 5-60 mph the SRT4 beats the 350Z by a half second. Now THAT is tough to live with! Not a bad car but no real performance car like the Vette and the Z06 even more so.
IMO they are pretty ugly, seems like Nissan added unnecessary sharp angles and lines just to force a different look. Brembo's are just a name, no different than Bose; that doesn't make them any better than your GM brakes. Besides, you have to get the "track" option to get the good stuff and it costs more than like $32k. They don't impress me at all and I don't just mean that relative to my Z06. I'd consider plenty of other vehicles over a 350Z. It's not my cup of tea.
