I just had a Pioneer Nav system installed in my Z yesterday. It really is one amazing piece of useful technology! It is fast, easy to read and unbelievable in its seemingly limitless data base allowing you to locate businesses by their phone numbers, brand names for banks and gas stations, and thousands of eateries and coffee shops. The installer still has a couple bugs I need to go back for correction, yet I am very impressed.
This was the one feature I most missed from my almost purchase of a M5 when I bought the Z last year. This Nav system is head and shoulders better than the relatively primitive system BMW uses.
Yeah, I saw it on my dad's Acura back in '99 and thought it would be a great safety and time saving device for my coupe because when I bought it I was doing some SERIOUS traveling for work. I went with an Alpine unit and put a 6" lcd screen in my glove box. Fits JUST right and is always in the shade - no glare - very easy to see. Next time, though, I think I will try to flip-up screen head unit. That looks pretty handy. Do they have those in touch-screen yet? Or are they still remote control only?
And yeah, the Alpin I bought is going Warp 10 compared to the one in the Acura. Very accurate too. You'll know it was a good purchase the next time you get lost or need directions. I figure it cut about and hour of driving off for me one time in Boston with all the 1-way streets up there.
