Default Vararam coupling?

I bought my VR-B2 used and it came without the coupling that goes between the filter box and the MAF. My car being an '02, I figured that any old 3.5" silicone coupler off of Amazon, cut to fit, should work with my 85mm MAF. Should this be ok?

I hope you know that the VR-B2 does not have a carb # and will not pass the visual smog check inspection in CA. A lot of work to install then uninstall to pass smog - just saying, but you may already be aware of this ?

I know what I'm getting myself into. I have several lifts to make any such job much quicker.

I thought 4" ID might be too large for the 3.35" MAF. Should I try to find 3.75? 4.0 and 3.5 are easy to find but 3.75 not so much.

You might think about keeping the stock accordion coupler rather than a smooth one. Other than looks, it does nothing to the performance but often requires a slight tuning adjustment....the accordion coupler turbulence was part of the original non-programmable firmware in the PCM. Over the years some had problems on decel with popping and accel with lag.

Maybe my 04 was more sensitive to the Vararam but my car needed to be tuned. I was getting the lean codes with the stock coupler as well as with the power duct. After turning it seems to be working fine. After you install the Vararam just take a look at your fuel trims. If they are too high after driving for a few hundred miles you may need a tune.

The coupler in question is the one between the MAF and filter, not the bridge and the TB. I'm just trying to find out what size to get. I've installed headers and a ported TB at the same time and I've already mailed my PCM to ECS.
