The last Corvette on the Mallett registry I could find was a C6 completed in Sept 2005. The last C5 on the registry is 98-023 built Feb 99. My car shows a build date of Aug 2008 and number 98-024 C. You are correct I couldn’t find another Mallett Conversion with the letter C. I only presumed that as it was built 9 yrs after car 023 they must added the C as it was a convertible, but I just don’t know!
Also I hadn’t seen a supercharger in the other Mallett cars set up like this but I presumed it was because the build date was much later than the others, but again I just don’t know! The owner who had the build done I traced and he confirmed the build date with me but just couldn’t remember the specs. He confirmed the supercharger fitted, cryo upgraded transmission and over $45,000 spent on the engine alone with a total bill of over $65000. But he couldn't remember the engine build details. He said the carbon fuel rail covers would have given some of the answers but he took delivery from Mallet and they weren’t on the car and were to be sent to him, but he never got them. Mallett went into bankruptcy apparently in 99 so he never received them.
There is one serial number plate on the car....pic below and another Mallett plate on the underside of he trunk lid pic below.

You are correct the owner had the RK carbon hood and other options done before he sent the car to Mallett. The carbon hood and Mallett wheels were an option for all Mallett packages the Mallett conversion website states.

You are correct. The last corvette conversion I could find on the website was a C6 05-003 completed in Sept 2005. The last C5 98-023 completed Feb 99. My car build plate shows 98-024 C built Aug 2008. I couldn’t find another with the letter C and just presumed it was there as it was a convertible and was built much later. The supercharger is different to other Mallett’s I’d seen but again I presumed that was because it was built much later but I just don’t know! The owner I traced confirmed the build at that date but couldn’t remember the engine build only that it cost him in excess of $45k with a total invoice excess of $65k.
It has one serial plate pic below and one Mallett plate on underside of trunk lid pic below.

Nice looking car,....enjoy it but be careful as I'm sure it gets squirrely when the boost hits.
Thank you!
Could you post a pic of the wheels you have?

The car very quick. The rear end is very light if you floor it and the car it just doesn’t run out of breath! I had it out early Sunday morning a few weeks ago straight road good weather no traffic and it just kept going and going to 182mph and was still going and would have kept going. Hmmmmm....Of course it was not on a public road.

Im just trying to identify the block, if it was changed, if there’s any numbers I should be looking for and location so I can try and work out if it’s a 372 cid or a 427 cid as I believe these were the only 2 engine builds Mallett offered with a supercharger.
That’s why I originally posted. Just trying to work it all out!

Great find, why can't I find these things when I am shopping for a car!! I remember meeting Chuck Mallet at Corvettes at Carlisle one year. Along with the Corvettes he also had a Pontiac Solstice Convertible with an LS1 V8 installed under the hood!!

Mallett engraves the engine block with his name and serial number of the car, at least the ones I have seen have it. It is located on the passenger side of the block, on a flat spot, at the inside corner of the base of the head, if that makes sense. Your car looks awesome, take it on a road trip and visit him, see what he says.

So I may have some info that can help you as I did a TON of research on Mallett when I bought my 02 Mallett Hammer Z06 in 2013 (#02-009)
First bit of info is that Chuck Mallett is little to no help with these cars. He pretty much riped everyone on that registry off. He advertised that build records would be held at the NCM for every build. I called the archive center there and was told that they tried for years to get the info on every car from him and he never turned in a single paper. So the museum has 0 documentation of theses cars.

Another thing that was my understanding is that the only cars that got a chassis number and were added to the registry were cars that were ordered and built through him when brand new.

And that supercharger is exactly what my car had on it when I bought it. (i believe the original owner i bought it from bought the kit himself after the car was completed and sent it back the them to be installed. that's why my chassis number doesn't indicate supercharged) It was a pretty weak setup. My car was a stock engine with Heads/cam and that blower setup was only putting out 4lbs of boost. Mine made 450 or 480 wheel with that setup. I ended up selling that kit as it continuously threw the serpentine belt and I got tired of disassembling the whole kit to get it back on. I switched to an A&A kit on 7lbs and it made 618 at the rear tires after that.

I bought my car with 2,000 miles on it in 2013 and sold it in 2016 with 13,000 miles for 37K! Its build sheet totaled 120K including buying the car. Mine had the Hammer pkg, Oil cooler, Trans cooler with pump, 3 way adjustable penske shocks, Mallett wheels in 10.5 and 12in widths, Mini-tubbed, Red Devil big brake upgrade, Headers and full 3" corsa exhaust, supercharger, clutch upgrade, carbon fiber "427" hood and more! I loved that car and still to this day wish I didn't sell it. I would buy it back if I ever found it again. The guy I sold it to moved on from it after just 4 months.

Feel free to shoot me a PM and I can give you my contact info and share information if you're interested.

I have someone that may be interested in those. I assume they are the split 5 spoke version?

I was hoping you were still around and would chime in on this thread Scott.
I remember talking with you about your 02 Mallett Hammer just after I saw where you had sold it. It was just before I bought my 2003 Z06, and I was so sick that your's had gotten away.
What a shame that Chuck Mallett didn't keep/maintain the records on the cars he built and submit them to the archives deparment at NCM. That's a huge void in the overall history of the C5 Corvette story! I wonder if the one that was donated and later destroyed in the sinkhole had any of it's paperwork on file at NCM?
It seems like someone would reach out to Chuck and try to get the records, if any exist. What a shame!

I know the Museum doesn't have records of his builds, but he does. When I was inquiring about buying a Mallett car and called Mallett, they were very protective about the particular car. Once I bought it and talked to them, they were little better, but not much. After going to his shop to have the clutch replaced, when they were in Ohio, they really opened up. They gave me the build sheet and copies of the original invoices, without the original owners name. I dropped the car off and flew home, at the time. A week later, a friend drove me to pick up my car, in his Mallett of course. They got a kick out of that. Got the full tour and met the crew. His father Chuck, built the engines, brother Lance was the fabricator, roll bars, etc and Chuck was the business man. All the other crew were great, they were one big family. My buddy had his valve covers signed by Chuck and the only way he would sign it, was if the whole shop signed it too, which they did. Sorry I didn't get mine signed. I wish they were like Lingingfelter, for a fee they will send you the build sheet, if they built it. What puzzles me is why your serial # has the-C in it. Maybe it wasn't a full package build and that's why it's not on his registry. Does the -C stand for camshaft mod or continuation model, being done years later? I hope you get the answers you're looking for.

Thats interesting information and a great story!
I’m not sure why the “C”. I asked the previous owner who got it built and he didn’t know. He’s been very helpful and is still looking for his records of the car. I emailed Chuck today and asked the same question but no reply.
The owner told me again that he had body mods done to his taste before he sent it to Mallett, the carbon fiber hood, and other carbon fiber pieces and body skirts and rear wing so he spent his 65k on mechanics. 45k+ on the engine and balance on transmission, diff and brakes etc. He said he remembered the dyno test and Chuck told him it was 660 hp at the block and 551 hprw. But couldn’t remember the engine build spec. All would be good had Chuck sent all the build sheets to CM and I do feel sorry for owners who spent thousands of dollars for their cars with Chuck thinking this had happened as part of their investment.
The owner who had it built by Chuck told me today that the car is exactly as it left Mallett in 2008 and has only covered 3,000 miles since the build and only 700 miles since he sold it in 2014.
As far as I know this car is the only one with “C” after the serial number. A mystery.
One thing is constant I am hearing from members who have contacted me privately is that although Mallett may have had business problems in the past, but their workmanship, build quality and knowledge were second to none.

To me that is crazy, $45k on the drivetrain and only have 551rwhp Love the car though.
I had the Mallet style rims on my 98, they were XMS Extremes which were the same style. Neither are available anymore.
