I won't name names, but I think with most of these well known companies that do these types of upgrades to specific cars like Vettes, you are paying more premium for the name than for the performance. No, 551 RWHP isn't impressive for a SC LS1 or LS6 engine.
It seems like Chuck Mallett would at least want the family legacy to live on by submitting the info to NCM, but to leave good paying customers who paid so much money for these cars hanging like this is just low down in my book.
I've always been a fan of the Mallett C5's, but this sorry *** way of doing business really sours the whole Mallett-Corvette legacy/history for me.

No doubt about that! I got mine from the original owner and even buying 2nd hand I feel that the lack of customer service, terrible business decisions, and all the customers and previous business partners he has screwed over in the last 20 years, it amazes me that he is still doing work in this business. He's worse than Hennessey! the only good thing he had going is his work seems to be top notch.
Mallett engraves the engine block with his name and serial number of the car, at least the ones I have seen have it. It is located on the passenger side of the block, on a flat spot, at the inside corner of the base of the head, if that makes sense. Your car looks awesome, take it on a road trip and visit him, see what he says.
You were correct I found an engraving at the place you indicated. “Mallett Cars” and then a number and what appears to be a letter....not sure what it means.....pic below.
*Chuck Mallett just responded to me in an email. He told me the engraving is correct and it’s an “ID code that Mallett used to identify what was done to the block prep”*

Reason: Additional info.
Hi all I also bought a 2002 Z06 mallet #6. Supposedly a 383 stroker with heads, cam, headers etc but that’s about all the info I have on my car. I’ve been trying to dig up more info mainly on the engine but I called mallet and no response. Imagine that right?
any help or info would be great, Brian. And good luck with your new vette
And I do know it has a competition clutch HRE wheels, trans cooler, diff cooler, Baer big brakes. The car sat for a long time and was in a collision and was subsequently sold on eBay. Previous owner fixed front end kind of and it needed a lot of work...a lot of harness electrical issues.
im in Atlanta now and would really like to know what was entirely done to the engine and suspension.

He's located in Cornelius, NC now which is just outside of Charlotte if you're up for a road trip.

Thanks Brian....you’ve got a nice car there! I found that he will only respond to email, and then infrequently. I’ve never had a call returned. I asked him about the number I found engraved on my block via email and he responded immediately saying it was correct and a code he used for their build identification. I responded back immediately thanking him and asking if he could explain what I had and got no response at all.

It would be nice if the original owners kept their paperwork together on these cars and past it on when they sell, it make life easier for everyone. Mallett's web site with info on the options were a lot better in the past when he was doing the C-5's. Some of these cars are already 20 years, plus, old.

I had all my paperwork with my car, but even the paperwork is misleading. I had the original order forms, receipts and informational stuff. I bought my car from the original owners widow. She said he originally originally chose the C5R 427 with a supercharger option, Then changed his mind at some point. One of the invoices still showed the 427 option which the car did not have. I never did for sure find out what was done to the engine if anything, but the fact that it made 620whp on 7lbs of boost told me it was a stock bottom end with heads/cam. If it were a higher displacement engine power would have been higher I think.
One thing I notice is that the trend of terrible communication has continued across multiple owners. All the Mallett owners in this thread sound like they have had the same experience as me with trying to figure out exactly what they have! No wonder he went bankrupt and had to close his doors in 2009! I traced a lot of his past and he has screwed over many customers in the Corvette world as well as business partners. I'm amazed he even has a leg to stand on is able to still be in business yet again!
