Default 2002 windshield replacement help

ok i have a few questions that i need help with in replacing my windshield
1.does the weather stripping around it HAVE to be replaced? i ask because it does need replacing but that part (gm part #10333466) has been discontinued.
2.does any one know of any possible alternatives to replacing this weather stripping? i need it done, when it rains even a little, it does straight in my car.

I could be wrong but I suspect if you contact somebody like Safelite, you will find they have access to aftermarket weather stripping as well as the glass itself. I got a bid a couple of years ago for both the glass and weather stripping together. I remember it being pricey due to the heads up display. Good luck.

Are you sure the windshield seal is bad? I had my windshield replaced. They reused the seal which was good. I told them (auto glass tech) that there’s no replacement parts like the seal and plastic trim/moulding... they said they will be extra careful...which they were... if the seal is nick or cut not too badly, it probably can be repaired with a little RTV. Good chance the water leak is coming through the roof gutter/ side moulding...

This is what I experienced... the problem I had was a few days later after the replacement, I noticed water intrusion on both side of the roof/door/windows. The problem are the side mouldings (which needs to be removed for windshield replacement) and top pillar frame had small gaps where water will seep through. This seems to be a common problem area with a lot corvettes, the sealant drying out and cracking. Side moulding and small area of roof/ frame must be sealed completely. Whoever is replacing it tell them to put a good amount film of RTV around each moulding in addition to adhesive strips they use. And apply RTV at the top roof frame where it meets the composite roof.

What I did was pull each pillar cover and side door/ window weatherstripping (don’t remove it completely, stop where it’s glued) and removed the sun visors and holders to drop the front of headliner to expose the top pillar frame. I used a small amount (about oz) of water poured it on the roof gutter starting at the back. With a flashlight I can see areas where the water was slowly seeping in. I marked each spot and used compressed air to blow out and dry out the area. I used black RTV to seal each spot. I noticed new area water was seeping through after fixing previous spots. Once I got all the areas which took couple days... RTV needs to cure... I used silicone grease and applied it to the channel where the weatherstripping locks into. I noticed each door/ window weatherstripping has a channel for the water to flow through and drain out at an opening at bottom near the door hinge. Hind sight it was probably faster to just put a one whole bead of RTV through the whole area. Anyway I haven’t had a problem since.

oh yeh 100% sure the seal is done. all the seals need to be replaced around the top, the one around the windshield is the one i cant find though. its all torn on the corners and chunks missing from it all over the place.

also thanks for the safe lite suggestion. i work for a glass and lock place and we change windshields but were unable to find a seal through them, did get a windshield already ordered though.

Man!.... I didn't know it was gonna be such problem to do!.... Perhaps I'd be better off leaving and living with the damned 6" spreading crack! I mean did GM once again drop me in the craper on this windshield?... Why the hell can't they support the customer longer than a few years... Come on man.!

One more suggestion is to do a search on C5 front windshield molding. It seems there are at least 3 or 4 pieces. Maybe this will help. Again, good luck.
