Default Trunk Struts - 2 required?

So when I push the "pop trunk" button the trunk gets released but doesn't pop up. Most times I dig my claws into a corner to lift it up or just open/close a door so the air pressure lifts up the trunk a tad. Anyways, I was looking into buying a new trunk strut and all sites have said that 2 are required but I only have 1, on the drivers side. There isn't even hardware/mounts to put in a second one even if I did buy 2. Will one standard strut still work in this case? or is there a super-duper strut option available since it needs the power of two struts to lift the trunk?

I did talk to Chevy parts dept. and they said that some Corvettes only came with 1 strut, with an optional part number for the passenger hinge with strut mounts, now discontinued. I just don't feel like buying a trunk hinge if a single good working strut is available. Any help?

Turn the stops out a little and that will pop the deck up when it's released. You will know if it's too much because it will get hard to close and the lid will push above the adjacent bodywork when closed.

There’s numerous historical threads on this issue. I have the same conditions and am going to try one posted solution utilizing a 1.5” spring nestled around the struts. Surely members will weigh in.

I suggest having two struts even it you need to get the hardware (hing) for the second or missing strut. I replaced my original 2004 convertible trunk struts two years ago when the trunk lid would no longer stay open. Never been a fan of adding the spring.

Just had new struts put in and that solved the problem - when mine wore out on my 01 vert they also didn't have enough strength to keep the deck lid open at car shows on very windy days - no now issues at all - I would be leery of messing with the stops - if you screw them out they don;t let it close all the way to have the gap lines look right - just my opinion

I have pretty new struts (replaced a few months ago). I also have a spring. Although my trunk stays open with no issues, it still doesn't pop up very much when I open it.

mine worked for 5-6months and now I am back in square 1. I think I'll try the bump stops and then the spring. Any specifications for the spring?

I put the hood latch spring on several years ago. Best couple of dollars I've ever spent on this car. It has outlasted a couple of strut replacements. The spring will make the trunk pop up (and stay up) so you can get your fingers under it. The struts hold it all the way up.

I'm still looking into it. Dealership says this hinge is discontinued and it aboot $100 for a new/used one when I look online. I only use it once a week when I need to grab a quart of oil

That's insane! Go to www.liftsupportsdepot.com They're only about $30.00 or so.

I need a whole new hinge with the mounting hardware, not just a strut. or just the ball studs to rig up something. Only thing they show available for Z06 is hood struts

So you are saying you need the trunk hinge, not the struts? How did struts get in this conversation? LOL! The hinge is a whole different ballgame.

Yes, I need a new hinge if I want to have two struts. The drivers side hinge has a strut but the passenger side does not and no hardware to attach strut. I guess I can look at as additional weight savings with a Z06.

Try this
Close the driver door quickly and it should pop up more.
