Default My airbox implementation vs the zip tie mod ?

Hey guys, what's going on!

This is my simple implementation, of opening up the airbox, pic below. I implemented this on a Z06 however I believe it applies all C5's. As you can see, I cut out the front of the box, in hopes of allowing more air. I tried to do this evenly, such that aesthetically it not too bad (lol not that matters).

Did I gain anything from implementation ? What exactly is Zip Tie mod ? Is there a difference ? Does anybody have pics ? I realize that this is not a true CAI - however as I understand it, it helps with air induction...

Thank you!

I'm not seeing the pic you mentioned, so It's hard to assess what you've done.

It hard to tell what you did but it looks like the filter is exposed and facing up. That fine but if you drive in the rain you better put a seal on the front of the hood or when it rains you will suck water into the engine. Also you have to open up the fog light housing to allow cooler air to reach the filter.

Thanks for that, good information!

I image edited the photo for better light, it should be good now.

I ran the configuration, on the street, for months without any water issues...I wonder if this is being overly cautious ?

Okay! We can see it now! That does have a nice clean look to it. I'm sure that you're getting better airflow than stock. You're probably not getting quite as much as the zip tie mod, but it certainly looks a LOT cleaner. I don't think you would actually notice any tangible difference between what you've done, and the zip tie mod. As far as actual HP gains, you're not going to see a whole lot with either mod. You gain a few HP, but not enough to feel on the butt dyno.

This article published on our forum would disagree.

Here's a good thread that talks about the gains of the zip tie mod.

If going for looks, it is an OK mod. However, realistically there is probably little to be gained by doing that over a stock air box.

I said the gains where only a few HP and not enough to feel on the butt dyno. They are still gains though.

Also, the Z06 is less restrictive to start with, so the gains may be even better for a base model. Hard to say though.

The seal is like $12 so its a cheap thing to do. It might not suck water into the engine but people add that seal when they do what you did and my car has it. Opening up the fog light area let's cool air reach the filter, so that's a good idea too and costs nothing but your time.

Thank you Warlord for posting links!

Uneducated naysayers aside, I like my implementation. It shows gains of over three percent, not three horse power. That's a lot for such a simple implementation!

If I had to implement it again, I would run the other version of the modification, however - this draws air differently (called the "Flip Tie Mod").....

I wonder if tests and gains are available for aftermarket CAI - if there's a difference, it should be noted, like the Vararam on the street
