I had never even heard of a webril wipe before this thread. Now I understand!!! wow those things are awesome.
Also, any of you CCW owners have an opinion on a sealer? Is just a good carnauba wax good for sealing? Or what about a ceramic coating? But something off the shelf. I don't want to spend a **** ton of money on sealing them.
Ordered tires today. Im not sure how the folks at discount are going to manage to mount the tires without touching the wheels!!!! This has been a very addictive process. I never thought I would taking polishing them this far.
Whatever you do, do not paint them with clearcoat.
I bought a set of used 505A wheels that have a failed clearcoat on them a couple of years ago and I am on maybe my 8th application of methylene paint stripper and still can't get the stuff off.
I am finally giving up and sending them off to get professionally done. (probably going to go with a Chrome finish)
My 2001 factory aluminum (forged? - $1200 option) wheels were clear-coated at the factory and still looked good after 13 years and 52,000 miles. Keep in mind that if you polish your wheels, they will corrode eventually if not coated. Applying a wax or ceramic coating will help only if it is reapplied often. A clear coat of say, polyurethane is better but of course, its initial cost is higher than a bottle of wax.
Got my Extreme Contact Sport tires mounted today. 275/35/19 fronts and 305/30/20 in the rear
Did a final polish with Adams and webril wipes. Its pretty safe to say this car won't see rain again. Not unless I decide to have the wheels chromed. They were in fairly rough shape when I got them so its taken a LOT of work to get them to this stage. Im very happy though.
Wont be able to drive the car for another week or so. Getting some things fixed after a dyno tuning session showed I needed some fuel issues resolved.
Hey guys......so the schrader TPMS sensors would not fit in the CCWs. So discount tire used a different sensor that had a regular style stem on it. They said they are supposed to work in the 2001 Vette. I didn't have the car there, only the wheels.
I can get these sensors to learn using a magnet. I will take the car back to discount when I get time.
What sensors are all you CCW owners using??

I have a 2000 Coupe but, I upgraded the TPMS to the '01-'04 version during that whole wheel, body work transition. I stuck with the AC Delco version, and no fitment problems.

crazy. they said the scrader stem/threads didn't go through the wheel far enough for the nut to start?
As soon as the exhaust is back on the car I will run it up to them and see if they can reset the sensors with their tool.
Been wanting some 17s like those for my A body forever just too rich for my blood.
Hand sanding..glad those days are over. Nothing better than a proper polish job you can go a longer time in between touch ups.
What are guys paying these days to have a shop do a set of 4?
Been enjoying my set since 2012. However, owning polished aluminum wheels is a labor of love. The good news is any small curb kiss or rash can be wet sanded and polished out.
For all the work done polishing, dare I ask which brake pads you're running? I initially had an aggressive street/strip pad and it was very corrosive and quickly ruined the polish work I had done. Yes, I also dailied the supercharged car. I just switched off to Z26 pads but have not yet repolished the wheels so no experiment yet. But soon!
And truly, if less dirty pads, a good polishing and a better sealant than I used before do not make the wheels livable for regular use then I will have them powder coated I cool medium grey metallic the next time I buy new tires. I do love the polished look. But if it can't be made to be functional on a daily.... I've got the fix on lock.
