I want to replace my 1998 F45 system with Bilstein shocks and have a question about use of the Tech 2 computer. Is it simply a matter of the Tech 2 operator finding a list of options on your car and selecting "delete" and it's done? Then replacing the existing shocks with the new ones? Sounds too easy...

The tech II is used to delete the F55 shocks (and yes it is that easy). I believe that simulators are needed for the F45.

1. Hook up Tech 2, turn car on, make sure module in the rear is plugged in. Do not unplug the rear module.
2. Use Tech 2 to delete the F45 option (F55 does not appear on the menu screen, use F45).
3. Save new configuration.
4. Do not turn car off, do not remove Tech 2. Go to the module in the rear of the car, unplug the grey connector (the widest one), leave any other plug(s) in. [leave the other 1 (F45) or 2 (F55) plugged in]
5. Turn off car, leave Tech 2 plugged in.
6. Remove remaining plugs from module in the rear of car. [never plug them back in again, if you do the F45 turns on automatically]
7. Turn car on to verify the "max speed 80 mph" is gone.
8. Unplug Tech 2.
OK Thanks Smoken. Just two more questions... Where is the "rear module" located, and does a '98 require simulators? I just want to seem like I know what I'm asking for when I get this done. Thanks for the help it is much appreciated...

It is in the driver side storage bin, covered with carpet. If you have the F45 deleted with a Tech II you will not need simulators. If you don't/can't use a Tech II to delete the F45, then the simulators are to fool the system into thinking the F45 shocks are still present. I pulled my F45s out of my '99 several years ago for C6 Z06 shocks. My F45s were still working but I, frankly, could not tell any difference among the three settings (maybe could have on a track but mine is a convertible so getting on a track was unlikely), saw how much they would cost to replace, and had an opportunity for a great deal on C6 Z06 takeoffs with less than 500 miles on them. I also got lucky that Carlisle was coming up and a forum member (Bill Curlee) offered to use his Tech II to delete the F45 while at Carlisle - this was in 2012 (or 13?).
