We own a pure stock 2003 ZO6 with 38,000 miles, which my son purchased new in March of '03. Yesterday, an error message "Service Column Lock" appeared. How serious is this from a performance perspective? Can the car be safely driven to a dealership, or will it need towed? Also, with the C5 platform not being produced in 17 years, (2004-2021), are parts still available? Thank you in advance!
You won't be able to drive over 2mph without the fuel cutting out. It's a fairly simple procedure you can do in your garage or driveway, you just need to bypass the column lock. Chevy did away with the column lock due too many issues. Either the one the above poster mentioned or the doctor Don's will work. http://www.doctordons.com/column%20lock%20bypass.htm
Do not take it to the dealer they will do their fix that was recalled years ago, but it doesn't fix the problem.

The dealership really will not provide a good solution to the column lock problem. Do as Smoken1 recommends and get a LMC5 kit and install it on the car - no more worries about a column lock.
A big thank you to the above three replies. Will pursue the advise on Monday. I'm impressed almost daily with the knowledge and mechanical advise on the forum!!.
If you have questions about installing the LMC5, don't hesitate to call Richard at Compliance Parts. Nice guy and he can walk you through the installation.
