Yes still have to press it for park and reverse, I changed the shift cable and then when test driving if I put it in neutral it stayed in drive then put it in reverse and it was in neutral but once I pushed it up to park all the way then it would park and go back down the gears normally until I reached drive and then again same problem, I'm guessing my problem has to do with alignment of the cable and shifter apon reinstallation but I tried to fix that by pulling the cable all the way out and putting the shift all the way down to 1 and still got the same results

Yeah, that has to do with the shift cable. The car should definitely shift as labeled. Are you sure you got the right shift cable?
