Good information, but what those charts don't discuss, is longevity of the filter, itself. Many years ago, I was using Fram filters on a Pontiac T/A that I had at the time. I was using them because I was able to find a "taller" filter in the Fram line, than the "shorty" AC Delco filter that was called out as an OE replacement. I went out one evening, just cruising, for about an hour. I'm on my way back home, about 200 yards from my driveway, and suddenly my engine starts sputtering, and I begin to hear the lifters clicking. I look at the oil pressure gauge, and see it dropping!

I stuffed in the clutch, killed the engine, and fortunately, I was close enough to home, that I could coast into my driveway. I was at a loss as to what to do, and it was kind of late in the evening, to do any trouble shooting, so I just left it. I was able to take my "winter beater" car to work the next day. After getting home from work, the next day, the first thing I do, is check the oil level, and it's completely full. Now what? I manage to wrestle the oil filter off, looking for anything strange, and see nothing. I grab another brand new filter off the shelf, fill it with oil, and install it. I disconnect the coil wire, so the engine won't start, and then hit the key to spin it over, and the oil pressure gauge goes right up to 10-15 PSI. I reinstall the coil wire, start the engine, the gauge jumps to 30 PSI, and the car ran fine for a number of years.

I never had any other issues with the engine, but after that, I did read a few articles about the marginal quality of the "standard" Fram filter, and I never bought another one. Was my experience tied to the filter, or some freaky mechanical issue? I'll never know........

1. So how do you fit the Glad Bag around the filter up there it’s so tight?
I put a bowl under it, loosen it and let it drip and spin it off when the dripping stops
2. What is a middle splitter cable hack?
The cables on the middle air dam would keep breaking, so I came up with a solution with bolts, lock nuts and springs for the 4 locations.
There is a detailed description on a thread somewhere on this forum.

interesting, cold start up oil pressure of only 30 psi is low IMO, my ZO6 is at 50 psi cold and even my '67 BB hits 55 psi cold. Granted, in the GM world Chevy had superior oil pumps.

I have used Microgard from O'Reilly's but using the WIX 51042 and will probably stay with it.

But keep in mind, that initial pressure reading was while cranking over with the starter motor, just to see if I would build some pressure. After I saw that there was at least some pressure, I reattached the coil wire and started the engine. And when started, yes, I had 50 PSI of oil pressure, as I had a Ram Air pump on the engine.
