Looking for recommendations on a converter for my car.
It’s a 98 A4 with 3.15s. Has exhaust, vararam & small cam
The car is my daily driver so I want with good street manners. Also plan on sticking in 3.42s or 3.73s in the future.
what would you recommend for this set up?
I did RPM 3.73 gears and yank 3200 stall. Drives almost like stock. Yank is pretty much dead on accurate. Flashing the converter brings it right up to 3200 RPM from a dig. Tires spinning will be your enemy. I also have headers, cats, exhaust, VR intake and tuned. I’ve never run a drag radial but have considered it. Best 1/4 mile last year with new set up was 12.5 @ 111 on street tires. With a 1.95 60 foot. Can’t even launch it at all without a tire. 3600 converter will be even worse if you’re running street tires, even a summer only tire will spin. 3600 converter might even make your tires spin from a 50 mph roll, 2nd gear drop. 3200 is fine on the street, and you can probably still go on a road course with the 3200 converter and 3.73 gears. Converter doesn’t really whine that much with 3.73 gears. 3600 or 4000 converter will whine much more. Your launch will be insane with a gear converter and tire. Not much will touch you from a dig. Roll racing, forget it, 6 speeds are faster, you need more power for that, gear and converter will help, but I don’t roll race. Good luck. Whatever you choose, you will like it. Puts a grin on my face every time.
I’ve never tried brake stalling the car yet, some people say that works better than flashing the converter. Doesn’t matter, I need a tire.
Yank SS 3600. You won't notice the different in 400 rpms. I was cutting consistent 1.5 60's with the cars I had. I love that converter for a mild, cam only LS build.
