Default screen for air intake area

A while back there was a discussion about putting a screen over the area that draws air for the radiator. I have one such screen. I put mine on last August. Someone else asked me to let him know about any overheating problems once it gets hot out. It's not hot yet, but it's in the low 80s and I was out cruising to day when I ran over a plastic bag. That always makes me nervous with any car I'm driving because I don't want it to get stuck to the exhaust and stink. So I was watching in the mirror to see if the bag made it out. It did not. Uh-oh.. And I noticed a few minutes later when at a stop light that the temp went up a little bit. Not overheating, but about 10 degrees warmer. And the fans started running. Fortunately I was close to home and I pulled into the garage and put it on the lift. Sure enough, there was the bag sucked up into the screen. Fortunately, it couldn't get further, on up into the radiator and it was a simple job to just pull it off the screen. So, do the screens work? Yes. And notice the 'after' picture of the screen in it's normal state. No buildup of leaves, or anything else. I'm glad I have one.

I got mine from West Coast Corvette. Here's a link:

Someone said they found a very similar screen at a Home Depot or Lowes and had to cut it to fit.

Since the C5 acts like a vacuum cleaner going down the road, having a screen to cover the radiatorr area is a good idea.

I have put screens on all my Vettes throughout the years. On my first Vette, I took off the radiator shroud and found a ton of debris and that made a believer out of me.

In my un scientific study, the screen does effect temps a little (very little) in my observations. Before I put the screen on my 04, the cruising highway temp on a 100 degree Texas day was 196- which I'm thinking pretty good. After the screen, it will be a steady 198 with an occasional flirtation at 200. Still pretty good and totally acceptable in my world.

During our cooler months, the car runs at 190-192.

Totally worth the effort.

I've had one on my 2004 Z06 Commemorative for 6 years now. Prior to having it, my car was a 405 HP "Hoover"! Never again. A very worthwhile purchase. I Lived in Phoenix Arizona for 4 years with it. No cooling problems at all and my radiator stays clean.

I have installed the screen years ago!... so no debris problemo... however, cooling was the subject I've questioned..seems GM was wrong (surprise!!)... I drained cooling way earlier than GM says... Their coolent was supposed to remain good but man!! It was black... Awful.. Don't listen to GM! Change the coolant way sooner... Runs much cooler now, even in SoCal.
