Drag racing is cool, but a C5Z isn't really the car for it. The rear end is made of glass and it was designed to carve corners.
I agree, except the made of glass diff. I've had 2 different 427 engines yanking on my diff, first diff was a single rib 3.15, current is a 3.42 3 rib, changed only because of my high stall Yank converter, to help make it feel "tighter." 137,000 miles with 2 different 427s and no diff, or A4 issues.
Not everyone that has a Corvette or zo6 for that matter wants to drag race, I have an uncle that wanted a c5 z06 but didn't want to have to shift as he is getting older, so he swapped an auto into it as well, and it is not a simple thing to do on a c5... Could have been a hack job on this car but chances are it was all done right because it's a lot cheaper to buy an auto c5 then to swap an auto into a z06.
Swapped, but there are one offs out there that are rare as hen's teeth. When I was a designer on the gen 1 Viper a special one was built for Iaccoca with an automatic, definitely won't find another one of those around.
Some folks here are complaining about hot roding a C5 Z06... Hot roding is "All American" and shouldn't receive abuse from the few non hot roder people here. Please live and "let live". Long live hot roding.

Amen, brother Arlen!! Many young guys here who will never get old!!! Just like I wasn't going to!!! Ask me how that worked out for me!!! If you want a Z06 but you've broken a wrist, or both wrists, or had a hip replacement, pushing a clutch pedal and shifting isn't any fun. Personally, just because a car has had a trans swap, A4 to M12, or M12 to A4, does NOT mean it's butchered, or hacked! That's kind of insulting to skilled craftsmen who have done this the right way. That said, If I wanted C5 Z06 performance in a straight line and corners, but didn't want to modify a nice existing Z06, I'd probably mod a base model FRC, with Z06 suspension, exhaust, heads, cam, and intake. I do agree with you guys that I hate to see a nice stock Z06 modded, no matter how well it's done. There are other ways to do it. I also do agree with Stingroo that even though the Zs are quick, there are better drag platforms...
Update
well this car was built with the automatic . Trans code specifies an automatic. I was able to talk
to owner and he stated it was his dads car and ordered specifically set up for street and to play with at the track. Guess I’ll never know how hard it was ran. Not interested in it but learned a bunch along this journey
If you want an automatic (for whatever reason), then I wouldn't necessarily run from this car. If the work was done correctly, then I don't see an issue. There are lots of valid reasons for wanting an automatic. For example, try driving here in NOVA for a while. You'll get tired of the A6 quickly. There where 2 different accidents on my way to work just this morning (that's in addition to the normal traffic Hell that happens even without an accident). It's some of the worst traffic in the US. Maybe you're disabled, or have really bad arthritis. Maybe you're really into drag racing. Maybe you're young and never learned to drive a "standard" transmission. It doesn't matter what your personal reason is. If you want an automatic, get one!

I did not think that this was possible. <aybe the dealer did the swap for the original owner. If it can be proved that a Z06 came from the factory with an A4 installed, that car is SUPER rare!
I have an 02 Vert automatic and a 03 manual coupe….. love the automatic and when I get the stall, new rear gears and cooler installed I believe I’m gonna love it even more and the manual will likely be finding a home .
I'm looking at this very Z06 right now . I emailed the dealer asking about a Z06 with an automatic transmission, and informed them that Z06s were not made with automatic transmissions. They only replied that "this is the way the car came to them"
So it seems they don't understand Corvettes .
I thought at first maybe it was a badged base C5, but the VIN has the S in it, which should be a Z06.
Looks like the LS 6 to me.
Except for the transmission, it all looks like a Z06.
So I assume the previous owner swapped transmissions....maybe he had a medical reason or a drag reason...but I don't want an automatic Corvette. Especially a 4 speed....modern 8 or 10 speed autos are one thing ..but the old 4 speed autos..no thanks...as far as I'm concerned, that reduces the value of this particular car by Alot!
Maybe it would be a find for a younger driver looking to get into a Z06 but can't drive manual..

super appreciate the Intel on this strange automatic Z06. I'm currently looking at this car, but will probably pass because I don't want an automatic Vette. But it's good to hear that it's not a badged base C5, that it was a factory build...

That does make this super rare...too bad I still don't want an automatic Z06...well not with those old 4 speeds...

While your there looking at this one,, Post a picture of that cars option list ,,, were all curious. Thats the true test as to how it left assembly. ANYTHING can be modified after that. ( sometimes even the option sticker AND v.i.n. number are changed ) Likely never truly know,,,,
.
Look it is not uncommon a this time to see cars modified for disabled vets or accident victims. Someone just swapped out and I expect for medical reasons. Heck I have a friend that may have to trade his six speed for a auto due to a inherited hip issue. He just can't clutch much anymore.
Look it is what it is and while a conversion it is not the end of the world. If anything it let someone enjoy a good car the may not have been able to drive otherwise.
I inherited my A4 Coupe. Mom wanted an M6, but like mentioned physical ailments forced her to have an auto. I now have the car and as much as I would like an M6 having both knees replaced and a right shoulder replacement makes clutching and shifting a chore. It was ordered with 3.15 gearing and Tampa Tuning doing his thing on the shift points and performance does make it enjoyable to drive, especially when I get stuck in Sarasota traffic.

If you can get a good deal on it, buy it and switch it back.
23K is too much for it being an auto ..not a horrible price for a Z06, but after the cost of buying and putting a 6 speed in, I might as well just buy a proper Z06
I guess great for someone who wants a Z06 and can't drive stick for any reason.
