Found a 2003 HTC Z06 advertised with an automatic trans? Car has 25k miles. I can’t find anywhere where they made a Z06 in 2003 with auto trans yet the VIN is not listed in the production specs for the 2003(1G1YY12S) I’m baffelled as car has every indication it’s a Z…..any insight as Google has offered no help
I'd check this out VERY closely. The one and only reason I can think of that a Z06 owner would want an A4 is for drag racing, as it would take a great, very fast shifting driver with a 6spd manual trans to beat an identically powered A4 C5. In most cases, the A4 is more consistent, too. Very important for bracket racing. If the guy was serious enough to swap transmissions, the torque tube, and all the other little things required, that car was probably driven pretty hard.
Pulled the build sheet. It's a Z that someone auto swapped. That's a crying shame. To take one of the best handling cars of the era and turn it into a straight line waste.
That’s a good point. I’m going to look at it tomorrow. Owner sending me build codes today. I ran across an impala once that had oddity set up and found it to be an executive special order car that was a one off…. Build codes should tell story

I just posted them above.
I promise there's no such thing as a special order like that anymore. Hasn't been for several decades. Someone swapped it.
Likely it’s been butchered based on your feedback and what I’ve read online. I have a c3 and a C5 vert. Just retiring and doing some flipping of vette and cameros. Also considering a stock C5 I can do some mods on for myself . Just saw this when looking and caught my eye.
I sure appreciate this forum……. Lets me know what I don’t know and my go to for great advice and perspective. Just live these cars!!!!

I agree to a point. However, it is also the lightest C5, which is important in multi facets of racing, including drags. True drag racers would not consider drag racing a "straight line waste."
I remember a post on this forum years ago when someone made this swap because of a disability
The only acceptable reason haha
We have a customer who has one of those wheelchair accessible Silverados. The thing is actually kind of wild - the whole driver's side is welded together and opens like a butterfly door - front and back door together up as one, so he can be picked up in the chair and drive it.

Drag racing is cool, but a C5Z isn't really the car for it. The rear end is made of glass and it was designed to carve corners.
