"Coating a finish"? What does that mean? I think you may be confused. I actually detail vehicles as a side-gig business, so let me help you out. That is why we are here!
Correction: The compounding and polishing performed to remove paint defects, and to get the paint as level as possible. The actual mechanical abrasion. Protection: What you use to protect the paint after correction. Waxes, sealants, or coatings.
Here is a 50/50 door shot of the trashed C5 mentioned previously. I am correcting the paint. This was after the first compounding step. If I remember correctly, I used Meg's M100 on microfiber cutting disks. I finish polished in the second step with 3D One polish on Lake Country CCS foam pads.
Pulled it out in daylight to look for any defects I may have not noticed under the shop lights. Paint is corrected with no protection on it yet. Just wiped down with CarPro Eraser panel prep.
So, you betcha! I am all about paint correction...and protection.
I used 3D ONE whith a Uro 50/50 pad on mine and it did a great job. After two years I have a few love marks that are starting to show up. Can I use Megs Ultimate polish and a blue foam pad to take these out and try to preserve as much clear as possible?
I wonder if it would work with hard water, I’m in the Phoenix area and trying to dry cars quick before the water spots show up is the hardest part of washing cars.
Was dreaming about having some kind of water filter/softener or R.O. system to be able to wash and just rinse off, especially when it’s 110 plus!
I will try it, where can you buy it?
By the way I have used Turtle Wax car wash for years, some with wax already in wash, some just soap, but always has a good smell, maybe a citrus type smell.
I use the blue water filters available at Wal Mart in the RV section. 2 of them are around 20$ and do a pretty good job. I have a black C-7, a black C-# and a black F-150 so I am constantly battling water spots.

The 3D One and Uro 50/50 pad combo never fails. For a refresh or light polish, keep using the 3D One. Just use a softer pad. The Lake Country CCS green polishing pads work well. Skip the Meg's Ultimate, as the 3D One has more lube in it so you can work it longer with little to no dusting.
A little over a year ago, Turtle Wax reformulated a few popular products. The "Seal & Shine" now has more durability, UV protection, and is less streaky. However, the item nobody is talking about is the cheapest in their lineup. They improved the one that started it all---the "ICE Spray Wax". It was good before, but now it is really good. More durability, more gloss, better hydrophobics, and a much better scent. Honestly, it is my favorite product from them. The carnauba content is enough that it adds some depth to metallic colors, as if you applied a paste wax. It just is much more durable. I have a couple local guys with carnauba-covered weekend show cars that I detail, and I use the new ICE Spray Wax as a maintenance topper after washes. It works incredibly well.
THANKS !!!! I'll have to give the ICE spray wax a shot.

I have been impressed with Turtle Wax products since they came out with the ICE waxes. No white residue and give a long lasting shine. May have to give this product a try.

FYRARMS what do you think about 3D Speed? I tried it last night on my hood and was impressed but in my experience it didn't have the cutting ability that 3D One has. I used it with my RUPES 15e (I think is the model) and a Uro fiber and it seemed to leave some holograms.
Look I know there are mostly good people here. Some have reached out in PM telling me about some of those with issues here.
Look I am easy to get along with and have no issue with others opinions but I expect to be able to voice my own opinions and not have to defend myself.
I have shared my regiment with others often but normally I am not defending myself over some criticism of a wax I never named or said anything specific about.
I did say I did not like ICE as it beaded but never left the shine I got with other products.
Right now here is what I use
#1 3m machine and micro polish along with the Meguires professional line of polished if condition warrants.
#2 Chemical Guys Black Light glaze
#3 Chemical Guys Jet Seal
#4 Pete’s Black Pearl and I am experimenting with a black wax from Chemical Guys
#5 I use several Griot Polishers as it does a better job than by hand.
#6 I also keep a range of polisher pads for different conditions to treat.
I am always open to new things and change up from time to time.
Now this is not for everyone but most here may benefit by the polishes as every wax need a good base.
I focus on treating the paint or clear to correct it and then seal it with the Jet Seal.
The wax just finished it off
Let me make this clear It is not for everyone nor is this the only thing that works.
I just avoid the stuff that is high silicone that just costs the surface not fixed it.
😂🤣 You were acting like you use some really HIGH END products and then we find out it's basic tan bottle Meguiars heavy to light polish and supremely average and over marketed CHEMICAL GUYS! Oh boy. And then you actually state the OBVIOUS that you "use different levels of polishing pads" 🤦🏻♂️ So does every hobbyist and professional detailer in America--I thought using fine to coarse pads on your polisher was already assumed? I think you need to take down your attitude down a notch, I thought you were going to name non "big box store" products? Weird.

3D Speed is a good AIO product, but will only correct mild defects. 3D One is a dedicated compound/polish with much more cutting ability. The 3D One will finish down better than Speed on hard clear coat, too. I would likely just use medium foam polishing pads on hard paint with 3D Speed.
My daily driver has soft to medium-hardness paint, and I used 3D Speed to give it an after-winter polish. It did a nice job, and I only used Lake Country black microfiber polishing pads. Since 3D Speed has montan wax in it, I gave the car a coat of 3D Poxy montan wax/sealant afterwards.
