.........Curious that they install travel limiters on the shifter. Smart. But odd. Odd, because if you center the thing the right way you don't need limiters. And if you don't center it but use the limiters to make a false center then it won't go too deep on the gears but it won't feel properly centered when shifting either. A false neutral in my mind. We'll see what it is in practice.
FWIW, I have a Hurst shifter, and it has the "stops" in it, too. I assume they're there so if you like to "shift hard", you won't potentially damage the transmission, the shifter stops, if adjusted properly, will prevent the damage.
These shifter threads are the new "what exhaust is best". LOL
I can't see this Calloway being much different/better/worse than a Hurst/B&M etc. They are a simple game of leverages and pivot height. The MGW has no internal springs nor stops, similar to the stock shifters. I'm not sure why some add "centering springs" which forces you to exert more effort laterally. May find a shifter they like and stick with it...understandable. Unless you are @Tusc who is our resident Master Shifter Trial expert.
Shifters are 100% personal preference, all are better than the floppy d!ck stock shifters but they are in reality a simple part.
There is nothing on the market that intrigues me enough to swap out my $400 MGW especially because none of them come with a lower box (except Tick @ $590 and a TMOD @ $400). IMO the Tick is too much money and even though the TMOD is the same price I don't care to spend the money since the functionality is so similar.
I am interested to do the TMOD shifter linkage mod though.
Fully agreed. It's been general similarities across the board and each is subjective to some degree. I'm just satiating my curiosity at this point. Someone will get a nice shifter for 100 off when im done if it doesn't stay with me.

The Hurst has the "centering springs", but their tension is adjustable....

Right, I know some do just not sure why. They aren't really needed once you start playing with the pivot point and lowering the handle height. The internal springs of the trans IMO seems plenty to "center" the shifter.
I took my MGW apart and the machining/design is great in how they made the "guts". This shifter also does not have any centering springs but it is known as one of the best feeling/functioning shifters. The all out race shifter seems to be the Hurst having the highest effort and shortest throw.
I felt the Tick was wicked well designed to support drag racing. I wouldn't recommend it for a road course though. I prefer light and fast for that sort of driving.
Has anyone used/installed a Callaway MN6 shifter in their C5? I just discovered that these were made, and I am curious to hear some thoughts.
I had 3 different ones in my 04 Z-16 installed a Callaway, I think about as good as a shifter one can install ,had people trying to buy it out on the Vette LOL .I don't think so ..
Along with the brand new TMODcustoms Z06 tub, including one of his upgraded bushing cups.
It is well assembled, solid, and does the job just fine. Clean motion. Positive engagement. Not as light as I'd expect for the relative height.
A plus for some would be the adjustable stops. I see them more as a way to adjust travel and fore/aft alignment without adjusting the two TT mounting bolts. I didn't play with them.
Negatives to the design: the need to make a gasket to seal it to the tub itself, the open-to-air top of the shifter housing which will collect debris in time, and the square housing which... while currently sealed with some windshield sealant... doesn't naturally mate well to the oe circular cover.
It's not grabbing me, so I'll probably yank it this weekend and post on here.
Got the Callaway Shifter installed this evening, does anyone know if this rubber boot/insulator is supposed to be re-installed with the new shifter? The instructions weren't too clear on this. CC: @njpete19@Info@CallawayCars
How are you liking it so far? I'm curious about how easy is it to move left/right in neutral as I haven't been able to find any info on that. Everyone loves MGW but I don't like how much effort it takes to move the shifter laterally. Can you give some input?
None. It is as fluid as the transmission and the tub allowand therefore easy to use. It's a solid shifter which I am stiyrunning currently with the new transmission on a Tmod tub. Perfectly good.

would you say it’s easier to move side to side than the mgw?
No. I ended up replacing a transmission and plan to sell the car in spring so I put the C6Z tub and shifter in the car. The mgw is in the shop waiting to go back into the Z06.
