Default Stolen Car

Not my Corvette but my Son’s desirable Infinity hardtop/convertible 2 door was stolen right outside of his house. The door camera video shows the thief get out of the spotter car, walk up to the car, open the door, start the car, pull out and leave within 1 minute. Likely they had at some point identified his car to take, followed/staked him out and with a device, read his key fob when he pushed it to open/locked the car. My electronics neighbor said these devices can also detect tracing devices such as LoJack. He has installed a homemade cut off switch hidden in the passenger compartment to the starter motor along with using a battery cut off for when he parks his avatar in public. But he says, if they want your car, they will get it. Son’s car is probably now in a shipping container destined to South America. Africa, China, etc.

Sorry to hear this. I HATE car thieves. Should hang them, and if on video as proof they're the thief, hang them with no trial. Save the taxpayers money. On the bright side, if there is one, at least there's something good in China now.....

Unfortunately none of that is probably the case. Antenna + device to receive signal can pull from setting your fob keys down in the house or hanging them from a hook. Easiest way to prevent this is getting an RFID blocking box to put your keys in when you are home.

That really sucks, and reveals how little protection we have.

What are options? Retina scanner, secret question, AI ? With self driving cars, perhaps the AI locks the doors/windows, then drives the car and thief to the police station where the POS will be released on his own recognizance… Dutifully, the car drives itself to a blind intersection and delivers justice when the unassuming thief strolls into cars path. Car cleans up with a relaxing drive-through car wash, and returns home.

I know not everyone has a garage. But that said, the advice 449er gave is spot on. If they don't know you have it, they can't steal it. I have blinds on my garage, and they stay closed 24/7/365. Plenty of led/fluorescent lights make this possible......

It has been previously stated... If someone wants your car they'll get it one way or another. And no neighborhood, township, or city is immune. The OP stated that the theft took about one minute. That shows you right there... No popping the ignition, no cutting and twisting wires together - like they do on TV - but gone in 60 seconds just like the movie... Nothing is safe or sacred any more...
