C5 has an ironic headlight system. Because the stock lights suck. Ironically, the fact they are the last retractable headlighted Corvette makes them a desirable headlight setup for many, me included.
It's OK to drive in Jersey with stock C5 headlights. All the roads are very well lit. You don't really even need headlights.
I commuted for years on the turnpike, the parkway and all the X95s and X87s and never felt I needed better lights. (I couldn't tell if they were on!)
I only needed headlights coming up the driveway. So I could see the deer.

Apparently you've never been up north. Much of NJ is rural and very poorly lit. The GSP, NJTP and most of 80 are exceptions. Outside of the major highways it's dark AF.
Yes the stock lights are not that bright. But instead of installing a system that does not pop up, think about using options such as the Sleepy Eye. You still get to use the pop up feature , it only pops up about a third of the distance as the factory set up and you get LED lights. They look way cool. Then there are also other LED lights that fit into the stock set up. But as stated earlier, the C5 is the last of the pop up/rotating setups and it would be a shame to dismantle that.

No to the sleepy eye headlights. I think they look absolutely horrible. Yes to replacing the stock bulbs with LED's. That's what I did and the illumination at night is spectacular.
