Default LMC5 needed?

My 2000 has not had steering column lock issues at all in the 2 years I have had it. A VIN check says it has been fixed by the recall (which I understand will make the wheel not lock but you could still get the "wait 10 seconds to try key again" error or the 2mph).
I did check my BCM and it does not have an LMC5 installed on it.

Is it a bad idea to do it if I have never had an issue or good idea to do it as preventative?

Thanks.

I never had an issue with my '03, but I didn't want an issue so I installed it as a preventative and for piece of mind. I did get the 'wait 10 seconds' message after install but the brown wire mod took care of it.

I tried to get the comb off mine to do my brown wire mod but couldn’t pull it off and was afraid I would break something. So just left it and every once in a while I get the pull key message

Good idea to at least have it as a backup and probably a good idea to install it so that you don't have to do it in an inconvenient place.

Mine locked up at an Interstate rest area before I had the LMC5. Luckily I was able to get it unlocked.

Exactly what I did as well. In my opinion it's definitely worth the small expense and time to install. Mine required the brown wire mod as well; when I contacted Compliance Parts, he noted that he's getting more calls about cars needing it, likely because the cars are aging.

Not sure what you mean" tried to get the comb off mine to do my brown wire mod". Call Richard at LMC5 and he will help. A #1 customer service.

Best to have it on the car and neverr need it than to be in an out of the way location and have the column lock mess up.

I got one and left in the glove box for a year. After a year I finally got around to installing mine. Best to have one on hand at least, and installing never hurts. You'll see in this forum someone locks up ever couple of weeks without provocation.

Mine has it installed without the brown wire mode. Tried to get the plug off to do it and it wouldn’t budge, how do you get that darn thing off without breaking something

It's $40 and makes sure the car never leaves you stranded...sounds like a no brainer to me...

Yes, install it.
