Default Need some advice

I am going to look at a 2002 EB Z06 with ~5600 miles on it this afternoon. I would like some advice on what to look out for.

Also how soft is the market for these cars? I know what edmunds.com and kbb.com say they should price at, but I am not wanting to spend that much.

Thanks in advance for any insight / advice!!!

I think you will get a lot of posts on this thread, but here goes.

First price:
If it is in perfect condition, which it should be at that mileage, I would say anything in the 37-40k range would be fair. I think even the regular retailers(ie. dealers) are pricing these things in the 41-42k range so I think a private party(or a well negotiated retail deal) deal should be in the range above. Anything below 37k and you are getting a great deal.

What to look for:
The car is not flawless but there is no majorly inherent weaknesses. If the car has stock exhaust, it will probably have a little jingle while decelerating. Ask the guy if it has had any oil burning issues. Even some of the 02s have had this problem(don't let this scare you away if you have not heard of it. It can be fixed if it has it or if it pops up later after you buy, and can be fixed under warranty......the 02s were less likely to have this problem). Check the tires. This car can spin the tires at will and some people get a thrill out of that(no....not me :jester :jester ). Just check condition becasue they cost 300 bucks a pop. Some people have had problems with a leaking differential....just something to look at. The column lock debacle is also just something to ask about. I think there is a warranty "fix" for this since the media jumped all over it. I honestly dont' know what models it covers but you might wanna check it out. Weather stripping(especially around rear window) around windows has been known to be of poor fit and finish....just something to look for.

This is all just stuff that I have seen pop up on this forum. If you are buying from an individual, I think there is a certain x-factor about the seller that should be factored in. Basically if you can tell the guy really cared for the car....all that sort of stuff. Good luck. The car is probably one of the funnest cars you will ever own. I still slip into a different world when I slip behind the wheel.
Also, FWIW, GM is discontinueing the EB color. So in a few years, that color will be considered unique(much like Speedway White is now). If that means anything to you.

I've seen an ad for a dealer in Ohio That have three 2002 Z06's. They say low miles asking $39999.

I can't think of a lot more than FLYNLO already said. Like with any vehicle you want to know if it has been wrecked or had paint work for any reason which will routinely reduce the value.

My best suggestion is to find Foum Members in your area, particularly those with Z06's that might be willing to look at the car with you or separately. If someone has driven miles in a Z06, they will be able to make the subjective comparisons and give you quality advice. Good Hunting!

Thanks for all the info guys. Expecially FLYNLO.

I am going to take the first look at it this afternoon. I will most likely go back a second time if the guy is willing to deal. He is asking $42K for it.

If I go back a second time it would great to have someone to go with to check the car out. I'm in Plano, TX if anyone is interested.

Thanks again! :chevy

Neverl8, go to the Sowthwest section and post this. There are tons of people in that area on this forum and you just may be able to find someone to help you out. Good luck. Also, this guy is a little high on his price. If you can get him under 40 I think you will be doing well. I bought mine for less than that(although not by much....and less miles too....and chromies too) when the market was not as soft Ultimately, it is all what you are willing to pay and he is willing to sell it for. Again, good luck.

I know everyone who responded to your post has covered everything, but if I were you I would also get the VIN# and ask you local Chevrolet dealer to run you a warrenty report. You may also ask the person selling the vehicle for what warrenty work has been done and then when you get the report you can compare notes.

Just a thought.
