I know AH cant save you all the time but it does a really good job-than again I try not drive in the rain and definetly dont drive like that in the rain...
:( :( :(
May this be a lesson to us all...i know we all like to enjoy and push our cars to the limit sometimes but maybe this will make us think twice about the next time we wanna push the envelope...it might just save our lives :yesnod:
My prayers and thoughts are with those guys :blueangel:
The passenger in a Corvette that crashed and caught fire on a Woodinville highway last week has died.
Robert A. Merdes, 47, of Fairbanks, Alaska, died April 16 at Harborview Medical Center, his family said in a statement.
The car's driver, 46-year-old James Fleetwood of Kirkland, is still in serious condition in the hospital.
The men were in a 2001 Corvette when the car spun out of control on State Route 522 in Woodinville. It crashed and caught fire, badly burning the two men.
The State Patrol is investigating the accident. Merdes' family encouraged witnesses to call the State Patrol to help with the investigation.
``Both Rob's and Jim's families are together and supporting each other during this difficult time,'' the family's statement said. ``Rob's family expresses their appreciation for the outpouring of kindness and concern. Specifically they wish to thank the numerous good Samaritans, emergency and rescue support workers, medical staff and law enforcement for their genuinely heroic efforts to save Rob's life.''
Thanks for the follow up post, I have been wondering about these two men since I read the original post. I hate to say it but I think it was an act of mercy from above that the passenger passed, I read that there is an ongoing investigation into the accident.. Will there be charges, and if so what charges could be laid??? dangerous driving or vehicular manslaughter ??? :nonod:
Am I the only one that immediately thought, "It sure sounds like those guys would be alive if the car didn't catch fire?"
They were wearing their seatbelts and the passenger and driver areas look intact. And the article mentions only their burns as serious injuries.
Wonder why it burned? That is relatively rare in car accidents.
I'm not real big on hotrodding on wet pavement, but I'll comment there as well.
The supercar tires are FINE on wet pavement as described in that article. The article says that the rain had just started and it was lifting the oil to the surface of the road, making it slick. Those are poor conditions to say the least, but they are not the conditions for which the supercar tires are notorious for handling poorly, which are standing water conditions.
What a shame. Obviously none of us know the whole story. No matter how you view it, automobile fatalities are a tragedy. My heart and prayers go out to the families of BOTH men involved.
I know some of the folks here never push their cars to any limit whatsoever, and those folks can sit back and feel better about themselves by tsk tsking the two gentlemen in this accident. But I'm not a saintly enough driver to criticize them. I'd rather sympathize with them.

Apparently when the car spun, it did a 180 and slammed backwards into the divider wall HARD. They said there were transmission pieces on the road, so it clearly was a major rear impact to rupture the transmission casing, and it was enough to puncture the fuel tank, which immediately caught fire. Then I guess the truck hit it again in the rear, but it was already on fire at that point.
Such a shame; so many lives hurt or destroyed. I can't say I'm an angel, but then there is a time and place for most everything - Z06 running Goodyears on a wet road is NOT :nono: the time or place. How sad.
the stock supercar tires in the wet, including some posts from drivers who were just driving straight down the (wet) road when they hydroplaned and spun.
All tires hydroplane, at a given speed ,which is a function of their air pressure (even 747 Jumbojets hydroplane). --- Not meant as an affront. Just an interesting tidbit.
