[Z06] Interior noise
is this with the ignition on "before" starting the engine?
The fuel pump noise is also interrupted when the brakes are applied and the brake lights come on.
Noisy fuel pumps are not uncommon on a couple of other models, including Suburbans, iirc. The problem is that while you can have them replaced, the replacement one might be noisier still.

It's not a luxury car, it's a sports car and acts like one.
I have one of the older, 15# models. It works very well and looks OEM. But I should probably look at my options now.
OTHERS:
To those of you who say, "it is a hot rod, not a Lexus." I would reply that some of the noises discussed here are not normal. The excessive fuel pump noise is NOT normal and can be fixed. I never hear mine, and never heard it in my coupe.
I had a coupe for two years before getting my Z06, so I am familiar with standard C5 noises and I'm not complaining about the tranny - it sounds the same in the coupe.
But for the person who said they don't know what would be louder about the Z06 over the coupe, it is. A lot louder.
I had BOTH cars overlapping for quite a while while I tried to sell the coupe and there is a noticable difference. The Z06 lacks a great deal of soundproofing.
I have no problem with the Z06 having a little more noise than the coupe, but the removable partition should be an option, or even standard - it reduces exhaust and rear tire noise drastically with little or no downside. And for the 4-5# it would add to put a little more sound deadener in key places, it would be a very good trade.
Perhaps some of you don't use the car as a daily driver?
Ultimately though, I'm fairly happy with the sounds of my Z06 now that I have added a partition. Well, except for the squeaking dashboard and clunking passenger door - but those are poor workmanship, not design flaws.

:cry
I learned to ignore it or make the stereo louder because it helped the car go 12.80@Englishtown!
I just yesterdy installed Andy's partition. It was a breeze to install. The hardest part was fitting my 6'2"body in the trunkspace to drill the 2 holes! :) The dam thing really works! I was very skeptical at first, but I'd say it cuts down the road&exhaust noise at least 30%!!!! As for helping w/ the A/C,my unit cranks out the cold air,in fact, I end up lowering the fn usually down to 1st speed. :hurray:

If someone has a more passive driving style, why get a Z06 in the first place?! When I'm driving, I'm almost oblivious to any noise; I'm having way too much fun! The only time someone might notice the noise is during "steady speed" interstate driving, especially trying to listen to the radio.
The tires can really "thump" on a rough road, and it can be hard to sleep, as a passenger, but not impossible. I do have a divider which helps a lot, but sometimes we leave it out, or if we have lots of luggage. It has to come out to make extra room.
Overall, I don't think noise is that much of a negative. I have never been in a coupe. I didn't buy it to be quiet like my Lincoln Town Car. :steering:
The tires and the exhausts are the basic differences. There are differences in factory soundproofing, but how effective it is remains debatable. A partition pretty much cancels those out.
I'd suggest trying to find some road tests with noise levels or driving some and drawing your own conclusions. The cars you've owned, the way you drive and the roads you drive on may lead you to different conclusions than other owners.
I drive quite agressively when it is (IMHO) reasonably safe, and I do take weekend drives in the mountains where I would probably scare 95% of the people on this board (and the other 5% are crazy! ;) ). On those mountain trips, you are right - who cares about tire noise and exhaust noise. But when I'm riding with my fiancee to Phantom of the Opera on Friday night and trying to have a conversation, I'd like to hear over the tires.
