NJ requires a front plate. I really think it messes up the lines of the vehicle, so I left it off. After getting pulled over 4 times solely for having no front plate (no tickets however), I put it on. This was driving a torch red C5. I now drive a black Z06 without a front plate. Maybe black will be a little more inconspicuous. If I start getting pulled over again, the plate will have to go on :mad
Guys, Md. does require and I do have that modified clear cover. You can buy it for about $25.00 and mask the inside in your color and spray it. Our venders sell them here onsite everyday! Buy 2! Streetrod
Keep the plate on underneath the cover. When pulled over just say you were at a show and forgot to take the cover off. Remove cover, drive away and replace later.

I have the AO Engineering Forced Air set up that rams air through the license plate area. My car is a C4. I'm considering either mounting the plate down low on the air dam (not an option for a C5 owner, as the plate won't be visible), or just sticking the damn thing between the dash and the windshield. In Canada (check you state laws) front plates rust off frequently, so it is acceptable to shove the plate behind the windshield in lieu of its normal spot on the front of the vehicle. This is likely going to be my plan. I like the idea about removing the cover, saying you forgot - but if the cop is in a bad mood, you can still end up with a ticket!! :nonod:
I was stopped just outside of Dallas for having no front plate. He checked out the car for a while, and told me to run over to the GM dealership and get the brackets when I got home. :skep: I said ok, have a nice day, and I still haven't "made it home" yet.
W8 --I was doing just that, the real plate was screwed on and I velcroed the cover on, it actually fell off and I lost it last night. I am stuck with the clear one for now. I placed an ad for one to buy here used.....let me know if anyone has one to sell, red or any color cover for the front.
Front plates are required here too- I absolutely hate it. I got stopped in IL on the way to Funfest a few years ago in my 93 I used to have. Told the copper it must not fit right or something, couldn't get it to fit right?? :smash: Anyway, here's what I think if a cop pulls you over- right here pal :troll
