this proves the Z06 blows a 996 turbo out of the water in performance for the buck, stock or modded.
Most 996TT owners really don't care. Just like most Z06 owners don't care that an SVT with mods will smoke a Z06 for far less $$$$$.

I have a TT Porsche on order and have been researching mods. They are actually very comparable to the C5s as far as cost of mods goes. After the initial nut, the cost of modifications is really not too bad. I will be doing a Stage IV GT to mine. 650 hp for 17k is even better than what a LPT TT kit would cost with even less HP. Both are awsome in their own ways.

NoMercy, I take it the 911tt is in place of the srt10? Probably a wise move as the Porsche is a better built car. Personally, I wouldn't mind having either one.

I toyed with a porsche recently. Wasn't a 911, but some wuss Boxster! The car reminded me of a Miata! He ate my dust! Wasn't even close! Waste of gas!

Well not true, the C5 Z06 with LPE Stage 2 Twin turbo is over 650hp with
top speed 226 mph for only $40K. Add Z06 to $40K = $95K. The porsche
911 turbo is over $120K in stock. Can't compare with Z06. The corvette is
just more good looking, affordable fast car to own than a porsche.
Porsche I think is over rated.

But here is a point that you haven't considered, the extra parts in a porche cost a lot of money like the AWD, and superior suspension, engineering costs, quality interior, bulletproof motor and transmission

when you upgrade a Z06 to 650 horsepower you can barely use it until the end of third gear, and forget about applying it on exiting a turn.

A porche when upgraded to 650 or 800 horsepower, becomes an unbelievable monster. You can actually hook up a good portion of the power and each gear is going to smack you into your seat.

Not to mention the Porche will outhandle the Z06, anyday and not need suspension re-tuned

I think the porche is an amazing machine, worth the price tag if you have the money

I love my Z06 but given the choice of an 03 porche turbo, sorry guys im gone

The AWD I'll give you. But superior suspension???

Explain yourself. What specific suspension design is better in the 911 Turbo vs. the Z06? Name one handling category that the 911 Turbo is "superior" than the Z06 in.

engineering costs
Should it be my problem that it costs Porsche more in engineering cost to design a car that performs the same as a Z06? Higher engineering costs does not always = higher performance. That's Porsche's problem, not mine.

quality interior
Subjective, but yeah, I'd say the 911's interior is a bit nicer. Not as nice as it should be for a 120k car, but better than the Z06. But I would say that should count for no more than $2k in price difference between the two cars.

bulletproof motor and transmission
The motor is far from bulletproof. It's strong and a good motor, but not bulletproof. Certainly no better in terms of durability and reliability than the LS1/LS6, and I actually think the LS6 is a more reliable, and certainly much lower maintenance engine.

The transmission I'll give you. I always felt the Z06 should have a Getrag tranny rather than the Tremec.

Not to mention the Porche will outhandle the Z06, anyday and not need suspension re-tuned
Stock vs. stock, you're wrong - a Porsche 911 turbo will match, but not outhandle a Z06. At 650hp, a Z06 simply requires more driver skill to manage than an AWD 911 turbo does at the same power levels. On a road course with skilled drivers, a 650hp Z06 will be quite a good match with a 650hp 911, even with its AWD vs. RWD - don't forget the Z06 is significantly lighter than the 911.

I think the porche is an amazing machine, worth the price tag if you have the money
I don't disagree - it is an amazing machine, and I would love to have one. But it can never explain its $120k price tag for the performance you get relative to the Z06 at less than half the cost. Or compared to an $80k Viper for that matter.

I love my Z06 but given the choice of an 03 porche turbo, sorry guys im gone
For the same price, it would be a tough decision between the two. But for $120k vs. $50k, there is no decision - it's definitely Z06. Even if I had the money for the 911 Turbo many times over, I could never justify it in my mind. I would feel like I got ripped off by a bunch of Germans (and I'm of German descent, BTW)!

Sorry guys, but as much as I love the Z06 or Viper if I had the cash I think I would be in a 911tt or even a SL55. The Z really is an awesome car that compares to both of the above in performance and can even be made to blow them away with just a few bucks but you can't beat the german engineering, fit and finish, and I am not even going to mention SERVICE. I can drop my MB off for service with confidence that everything will be OK but I pray every night the vette never needs to go in for service.

Owning a vette is not just owning a piece of an American Legend! It is supporting your country and what it stands for! Why buy foreign? Buy American and buy the American Legend!!!!!!!

Re-read my comment. I clearly stated that "AFTER THE INITIAL NUT" modifications were comparable. Bang for the buck still favors the Z06 package.

:iagree:

PS: They also seem to think they are the best drivers on the road as well. I see Porsches crossing five lanes of traffic to get off at an exit often. They think they own the road. What a bunch of clowns!

Well I support my country differently. Instead of buying a vehicle that was assembled in America with some foreign parts ;) I physically put my azz on the line, I served my country as a US Marine and carried an ALICE pack and an M16 for 11 years. I pay a huge tax bill with no complaints. Serving/Supporting America means much more to me than buying American product, many of wich are not American anyway. ;)

You say buying American is what America stands for. I say America stands for having the freedom to chose what, how, when, where you spend your money and enjoy it.

You would be suprised just how "American" that Corvette actually is. Here is a news flash. I just bough an 04 CHEVY Avalanche. The build sheet, that is written in spanish, clearly states my Avalanche was assembled in the General Motors plant in Silao Mexico. In this "World Economy" if you stick to buy American, your not going to be buying to much.

Anyway, thanks for serving our country!
