Re: What does Z06 stand for? Does anyone know? (softy91)
GM is just using nostalgia to name things on the vette. That is why they are using the same codes from 40 years ago. It's all marketing hype and nothing really meaningful. The Corvette has a very large legacy now so they are trying to get every days use out of it now.
But, that is all just my opinion and should be treated as such.
Re: What does Z06 stand for? Does anyone know? (Austin89)
GM started using three character alpha-numeric RPO codes in 1963. Prior to '63 three digits were used.
Z-prefix options were used to denote "special performance equipment packages", of which Z-06 was one of the first announced. Don't know what happened to one through five. Could be they were assigned to packages that never got beyond the planning stage.
The other well known Z-prefix option in '63 was Z-11, which was available on full sized Chevrolets and consisted of the 409/425 HP engine with aluminum front end sheet metal aimed at "super stock" drag racing.
No one as of now that I have see really knows what ZO6 really means, and how it was derived??? If you do really know then what does each letter & number mean??? I have already seen this 63 vette with $1800.00 option and 36gal.tank. I myself own a ZO6 and still do knot know and I am willing to bet thousands of you other ZO-6 corvette owns do not either!!!!
