I saw those on a Vette at the Hooters gathering, don't know who's car though. I must say that I wasn't crazy about the looks of them, although they are pretty discreet. Then again, looking at how shi**y my black Z's fenders look from just two months of ownership, I can understand why someone would be interested in them.
I'm not a fan of them either but what are going to do. I wish GM would come up with a way to protect those areas of the body from road rash. Nothing looks worse than a Corvette all nicked up on those areas.
I installed the clear 3M sheets (custom fit) for mine from Cleartastic. I installed them behind the front & rear wheels, mirrors, and sills. Once you get the hang of it, they are a breeze to install and can be removed and re-applied as needed. See http://www.cleartastic.com.
Really does a nice job of protecting paint... I no longer grimace when I drive down the occassional road with chip-seal, a cheap way they pave roads here in Michigan.
Great customer service from Cleartastic, as well. I had one piece which had a wrinkled corner that wouldn't flatten out, and Cleartastic replaced it at no charge.
I purchased the painted versions of the ones above (yellow). The did not appear to "seal" close to the body of the car and look like poopie. I still have them in the box. Never installed them.
Hey ZratedC5; thanks for the input; I got on the site and along with the wheel protectors also ordered sill and mirror protectors; I didn't really like the looks of the mud guards, but was concerned about "road rash" on the fenders. Looks like they are easy to use, won't detract from the look of the vehicle, and will do the job: Thanks again :yesnod:
Yes, the 3M is the way to go, BUT it also depends on where you live, if I was to move back to where I lived in Germany I would use real mud flaps on the front, even 3M couldn't stand the abuse.
I think those clear plastic films can't protect your panels as good as flaps. I've seen them on cars that didn't look to bad and you hardly knew they were there.

No, I lived in gravel central, you see that white spot right behind my front wheel? That's freakin primer!!!!!!
The cheap, flat ABS ones are basically the same color as the tire and not particularly noticeable. The fronts use the existing screws and although the rears are supposed to require drilling, they can be held on with the single screw that is there from the factory.
I am using the Altec molded and painted stone guards. The fit is quite good with a little sanding. You just have to take your time when you install them and make sure they fit perfectly before doing any drilling.
I don't have any paint chips behind the wheels.
Around the rear brake ducts; now that's a different story. That is the area we really need something for protection.
