I'm looking for a little help here. I currently drive a 6 speed LT4 C4 but I'm looking to get a C5. I've found one I really like but it's an automatic. I would like to get another manual but the C5 is in good shape and possibly a really good deal.
I've found over the years that I'm always sorry if I don't get exactly what I want. If I make concessions, it always comes back to bite my ****.
If you want a stick car, then wait until you find the right one. I waited and found it.

I'm guessing it is a pewter car since there are no "champaign" colors I am aware of.
I have a 2000 pewter coupe A4. To be honest there are times I wish I had an M6, but as a daily driver in traffic - the A4 sure is nice and I don't regret it at all. I bought mine for the same reason - a good deal at the time, and I didn't want to let the car go.
I'd make sure it has at least a 3.15 rear end. I wouldn't get the 2.73 because it can be expensive to upgrade that.
I don't remember if the Z51 suspension came on 99s but if so, that is a definite plus.
It does have a HUD so that is good.
Looks like it might be a good deal. I'd try to negotiate some more on it though.
I just bought that same car with Y2k Chrome wheels, Borla Catback exhaust and 6k less miles for 22,000 it has the performance axle. I would not pay more than 21.5
When I searched for my C5, I didn't even consider automatics because I knew that for me this kind of sports car had to be manual shift. I had aslo ruled out verts for various reasons. Options, and colors became flexible, but not the fundamental car. Your entire driving experience is going to be predicated upon manual shifting or not, so what are you looking for? I wanted to enjoy winding mountain roads in my area. If it's the driving experience and you want to be an active participant, then keep looking for cars. There were 750 Vettes on ebay when I searched. I found my 03 Coupe, optioned out, with mileage and condition within my parameters, and at a very decent price. It was within the southeast area that I was willing to drive to, ten hours or less, and one of the three colors that I wanted. I am glad I searched till I found a car that met my various criteria, because now I'm eight months down the road as an owner and living the experience. If I picked an automatic because of convenience, my primary reason for buying the car would have been contradicted, and I wouldn't be happy. Go with your primary instincts.
The best point that I have read so far is to wait until I find what I want. I wanted a C5, bought a nice C4 because it was a great deal but now I want a C5 again. I will probably wait it out. I'm just so damn impulsive.
This is a Vette, you need to sit down and write out a list of must haves, would like, and don't wants. When I shopped, I knew exactly what I was looking for and did not stray. Other things not on the list (Mods!) were bonuses. Get what you want, there are enough nice Vettes out there for sale. Good luck with your search!

Once I decided I was getting a C5 it took me over 6 months to find the car I wanted, located east of the Mississippi, and at a price I was willing to pay. I finally found it as a 'Buy It Now' on eBay. It only took 4 days after I BIN'd it for me to get on a plane to Detroit to pick it up and drive it home. I am sooooooo glad I waited for the one I wanted, you may be itching to just go out and get one, but in the long run you'll be much happier if you get exactly what you want from the beginning.
I thought I wanted a stick, but I'm glad I have the Automatic. These cars are just a lot of fun to drive.
Oh - and if you buy used, don't forget to check the Carfax on it! I found a beautiful 99 Triple-Black Convertible from a Virginia car dealer, and thanks to Carfax found out that it had a Flood title! Yikes!
I don't believe it. 10 replies and no A4 vs. MN6 bashing. Must be a more mature audience tonight.
Well... ...I have owned nothing but 6 speeds in Corvette's. But this time around, I needed an automatic because of lower back problems. I don't regret the automatic for a minute. However, those 3.42 gears in the '03 Coupe were wonderful - especially with the 6 spd.
If you want an M6 than don't settle on an A4. You'll never be happy if you do.. There are no shortage of C5's on the used market. You'll find what you want.
I agree with the general concensus of getting what you really want. I think that the transmission choice should be given the most consideration in a person's decision. It is just as important as the overall condition.
