Confused
Hey guys and gals,
I'm new here....have been lurking for awhile. I used to drive Vettes way back. I had a new 77, 78, and 79 silver anniversary. I had an 80 ordered and the dealer kept selling it out from under me, so I switched to Cadillacs. Anyway, I think I want a new C5. The prices are great right now and I found a deal on one, but it doesnt have the performance handling package (Z51?). I think I want this package. Is it good to have or does it make the ride to harsh? By the way, is this a great deal....Window sticker 47,575. and I can have it for 36,075. It's brand new. Thanks for any input. You all seem like a great group of people. Oh, it's silver. I'm so undecided on color. I either want silver or black. I have a black Caddy now and I swore I'd never ever ever have another black car, but every time i look at cars, i walk straight over to the black ones.
Thanks again,
Jeff
First quit lurking and start buyin I'd would get the Z51 suspension. You wont regret it. It dosent beat you to death and the performance advantage over the stock suspension is well worth it. Second, if you can get the car for arounf 36k then what are you still standing in frront of your monitor Go buy and then post pics of the new beast
The Z51 is much better than the stock suspension, without being harsh. However, if you can find a car you want at a great price, you can always upgrade the suspension to something even better than Z51.
I have a 97 lt.carmine (red). My dad just bought an 04 SPIRAL gray, I think it is the only other color I would buy other than mine, perfect! BTW I have also been buying Eldo's since the mid 70's after buying my C5 my 98 Eldo feels like I am sitting in a truck! Mike

There are always Z51 and Z06 suspension parts being sold in the "C5 Parts" section. If you find a car that already has the Z51, go for it.

Jeff, I've found that I'm definitely in the minority around here (and you should keep that firmly in mind), but IMO, the Z51 is too harsh. I've got it and if I could swap easily to the standard suspension, I'd do it in a heartbeat.
When I was a bit younger, I'd push a car about as far as it could be pushed, but either I've gotten slower or the car's gotten faster today. I've never gotten close to the limits of what my car can do in a corner and I really don't think I'd have a problem with the standard suspension.
Again, that's a lonely voice on the forum. I'd strongly advise you to go drive both, particularly over potholes and expansion strips before you make up your mind.
Go with your heart. You can ask 10 people here and you'll probably get 80% for and 20% against the Z51. As for color, I'm pretty partial to blk. There are alot of times that I hate it, but then I wash and wax it and the love returns.
Nothing looks better than a shiny clean black Vette!

I'm partial, too!
Remember, this is a dream car. Decide what makes your heart beat faster and catches your eye! Then once you've decided - BUY IT! Don't compromise on your dreams!

Well, I went to the local dealer this evening to buy the black one with z51. They wouldn't match the deal I have going on the silver one, although the dealer for the silver one might be playing games with me. I just dont know. The dealer for the black one says there is only one rebate available and you either take it or take the loyalty rebate. You can't have both. The other dealer is giving both, but it's a couple of hours away from here and I've decided I want the black one....i have too many microfiber towels not to have a black car. lol
Jeff
I'll keep you guys posted on what I do and keep the advice coming! Thanks

The dealer is giving you dogpile. GM gives both. You can't get the loyalty rebate and the special financing though.
I have the A4 with 3:15 and Z06 sway bars and lowered. I don't
think I'd want it any stiffer. Well, maybe the Z06 shocks.

Thanks for the replys. Can anyone show me where you can have both rebates? The dealer showed me something saying it said you cant, but it didn't say that in my opinion. So, if someone can point me to where it says you can have both rebates, I'll print it out and show it to him tomorrow and be driving my new C5.

So, it looks like the dealer was correct as you cant combine the rebates. Hmmm, wonder why the other dealer was doing it????? Any comments? By the way, I live in Oklahoma City if that makes a difference.
