OH YES!!!!! I'm there with you! At least your wife rode in the car. Mine won't. So here is how it goes: you will REALLY enjoy your car as your hobby. Work on it yourself whenever you can, enjoy driving it. You won't have to argue over the radio or CD, never argue about the A/C turned down too cold. Mine supports me in my hobby, and may come around at some point. In the meantime, IT'S A BLAST!
i'm with you...i played hell getting her to get in and start it so that i could adjust the flashing 3rd brake light two weeks ago...incidently that was a first for her getting behind the wheel...as for the 98, she only drove it once...constant string of excuses as to why we should drive one of the other vehicles every time we go out.....on the bright side she really has no issues with what i spend on mods, time detailing, etc.
Mine wasn't crazy about it either. She drives it every once in a while, and we get to cruise every once in a while, which is one of the few things we get to do without the kids.
It hasn't hurt our relationship, and I'm happy about owning a car I always wanted.
mine scares the hell out of her and she is very scared to wreak it so when she drives it she is very careful..............other than that she loves that I have it since I have wanted one since I was 5
Mine is the best in the world. She insisted that I get the Vette and helped me pick it out. She doesn't mind riding in it, but will only drive her Acura TL.
My wife insisted on the Vette compared to anything else we were considering. She reminded me that there is nothing that looks like a Vette! After getting an 03 Coupe, MN6 in Black, she was relegated to the Acura TL. Its a great safe car and she had agreed the Vette was my primary and hobby. However, she always wants to drive it. Some times she drives when we go out together, which stresses me, but also cracks me up. I have to remind her to get on it a little, then when she does, it's a hoot. Feminine redline! So far it is a mutual love affair. I've been researching mods and discussing them with her. She is excited and thinks the expense is well worth it. I think I have died and gone to heaven. This is after 30 years of marriage, and she loves and supports my dream. She has kept her figure and looks, and is a gourmet cook. Damn, I never realized how good I had it.
My decision to buy a C5 Vette surprised the hell out of my wife, she was expecting me to buy an M3. Before I signed the papers, I had her take a test drive with me to see what she thought (she didn't want to drive it). She thought it was O.K but did not like getting in and out.....
She has since been warming up to the car and even talks about driving it one of these days. The best news is that her position on Mods is taking a leap in a positive direction. When I first started talking about changing things on the car I got comments like "you'd have to be crazy to modify a brand new $47K car". She then attended a Corvette show with me and after looking at some other C5s thought my car looked and sounded too plain. Before the day was over she pointed out all the Mods she liked and thought would really "dress up" my C5. I could not wait to start making the shopping list.
She'll be so surprised when I get her the Corsa Indy exhaust for our anniversary. Usually I forget!!!!
I found mine and called her to tell her that "in 31 years of marriage I had never done something like this but I was buying it". I told her that I knew she'd be pizzed but hoped she'd get over it. Well, she has gotten over it. Took about a year. We drive it everywhere but she has only driven it twice in a year and a half. She knows it's important to me and seeing me happy is her goal. She isn't exstatic about it but doesn't complain either. I don't force it on her and make her drive it or anything stupid like that. She knows that if she wanted to she could drive it.
We recently had a cruise and met up with a group from Tucson. I caught her pointing out the underhood improvements I've made. She warms to it more everyday.
As some of you may remember, I do not own a Vette yet... was planning on purchasing early next year. Well, yesterday we went by a local Chevy dealer and since the wife had not seen a C5 up close, we stopped and looked at a new one. To my disappointment, my wife was not very impressed. She didn’t like getting in and out of it and said it was too small. Well, I have wanted a Corvette since I was 8… she said go ahead and get one next year but you could tell she was not at all thrilled about the idea riding around in it.
Any of you guys have or had this type of problem?
I told my girlfriend that I was seriously considering buying one while we were driving in the car and she thought that it was a great idea. She thought it was cool. I had to explain to her that it was something that I've wanted for the past 5 years. She went with me down to Atlantic City to help me go get it at the dealer. She has fun riding in it and I've gotten her to notice Corvettes on the road. She has even bought me some Corvette apparel.
My wife (actually fiancee'--wife very soon) really encouraged me to get my new Vette last week. She loves the look of the car and especially likes the 6 speed--she is good.
Get your wife to drive one--maybe that will help. Good luck.
I've been asked many times "how can we clone you" as I'm a female Corvette fanatic!! I cannot give you any suggestions how to make life with a non-Corvette loving woman more tolerable as far as Corvettes go...just give it time! I think I was born loving sports cars, but some women actually grow to appreciate Corvettes, if not love them!
If you belong to a club that is very social with many couples, that may help. Our club is that way, and we do a lot of things as couples and with and without the Corvettes. That could show her that life with Corvettes can be fun!! Of course, we all know that already!

My wife really enjoys the cruises and social events we do with our Corvette Club. She enjoys them so much she took over the 01 vert as "her car"
Yesterday we were getting ready to leave and she said "Let's take the FAST car". No problem!
I had a 94 Auto that she would drive once in a while, but it did not have any "shopping room". Now I have a Y2K FRC and I'm trying to get her to learn how to drive a stick.
Now she points out vettes and wants a vert for the "next" one.
Looks like I'm sitting pretty.
BTW, she has a 03 Tahoe so she can be sure to have "shopping room".

Well to make a lokng story short my wife never liked my Vette from day #1 and still to this day she would be more than happy if I got rid of it.
(THAT'S NOT GOING TO HAPPED)!
However, owning a Corvette is something that I've always wanted since I was 5 years old when I first saw a Red Vette on a school trip from the bus.
My wife very rarely get's into my Vette for a ride (like NEVER), which is fine by me, becuase it's my hobby and something that I enjoy for myself.
She's been to a few shows, to the drag strip for the Corvette Challenge, and finds it kind of boring (which I don't belame her). Just like going to the Shopping Mall is extremely boarding to me.
The bottom line here is you've always wanted a Vette and if you have the means go do yourself a favor and get what YOU want!

I have had Corvettes longer than I have had a wife
Seriously, my wife, actually our girls too all enjoy riding in the Vette's
My husband bought his 03 AE last year after I told him NO! Not because I didn't want him to have it, but because he had just bought a new motorcycle (along with a new payment) and we already had 2 car payments!! I felt he needed to pay something off first. Needless to say, I was furious when I found out, via email confirmation, that he had bought a plane ticket to Texas to go get his new Vette!! :mad I did get over it after a while and I liked the car so much that we traded in my Tahoe and got a Vette for me too! We're still making 3 car payments (we must be crazy) but the Motorcyle is up for sale. Since he got his Vette, he doesn't even ride it! The Vette is more fun!! We're looking forward to attending our first Corvette Event Labor Day Weekend!!

Presuming that you can afford it... who cares? Not to sound cold or crass, but she's your wife -- not your mother.
Nothing says togetherness any more than a 2 seater Corvette where you can take off and enjoy the open road together. In buying my Corvette, I was saying that I want to be a couple, taking road trips together, and expanding our circle of friends by meeting other Corvette owners. I biggest wish is that we both had more time for the Corvette, because its such a neat way to spend time together.
I think the Corvette will "grow" on your wife. She will never have the fever you have for it, but when she sees how much fun you can both have with it she'll come around!
I feel sorry for any guy whose wife does not like their Vette. I am a wife and the Vette is mine, yes I drive it almost everyday! I love every minute of it!
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
